Default SC61 ON A STOCK LS BOTTOM END WITH A BUILT LS HEAD

right know i got a stock ls and i plan to build the head up for a higher rev so i can have a decent power band. i plan on getting a p&p on the head with a upgraded valve tran, what turbo cams do u guys recommend? if i do the head work do u guys think it will help out on my powerband and not lose boost at a higher rpm?

Have you considered putting a vtec head on it? GSR cams are good with turbo

yea i was going to do ls vtec turbo but i decided that building a ls turbo would be a greater challange. so i decided to stick with the ls and see how much power i can get out of the non vtec motor

Some good cams for the setup you are thinking about would be:

Crower 402T-2
Crower 403-2

You're on the right track man.

One thing to consider is that your block is the weakest link in the chain to start with, and increasing the RPM range isn't going to help that.

That's not to say that you can't make huge power on a stock block - it can, and is done frequently.

But for reliability sake - you may want to go all out on the bottom end as well. . . and when it really comes down to it - the bottom end is probably going to be less expensive to build than what you spend on the top end.

If I had it to do over - I would do my bottom end first.

Currently I'm sitting on a JG Pro Series head, Crower 403 cams/valvesprings/retainers, JG SS Valves. . .

I can't do **** with them though because on a stock block, I wouldn't have the ***** to rev as high as the new head/valvetrain make power.

So my car waits patiently in the garage for me to finish the bottom end.

Good luck man - straight LS is rewarding if you're patient enough with it.

9:1 is a pretty common... 9.5:1 would also be nice.

People make over 500whp on stock sleeves...
