Default sc34 vs 5557

pretty much sc34 or billet sc34, price difference for me is 300 bucks

300whp goal, ramhorn manifold, 38mm wg, 3inch dp. is there really that big a differnce in the billet that i can justify a 300 increase or will the sc34 suit just well

For your particular goal, no.

I had the same goal years ago, made 304 @ 14 psi with a standard SC-34 .63 a/r on my bone stock LS. Good money spent.

Keep that 300 and put it towards tuning and/or engine management.

5857 has almost identical spool characteristics and will be more efficient

Precision's HP line-up nomenclature described the compressor inducer and turbine exducer. In this case, the 5857 Billet is a 58mm compressor inducer and a 57mm turbine exducer. I prefer this naming system as it tells you the most important measurements of the turbo itself.

Too many guys use useless numbers to describe their turbos like "xx trim." Sometimes manufacturers even use hard to understand numbers. BW and Garrett use useless names but at least people understand frames from Garrett (such as GT35R, GT42, etc), even though it doesn't tell you what exact model of the frame you're referring to.

Hey Snoop, I didn't know that was an SC34 on your old LS. I am building a setup for a customer now and he has one and wanted to know how it would spool on an LS. I am assembling his motor now and it has all Crower valve train and 404's. How did you like your teg as far as DD? How was the top end on that car? He wants around 400 and as close to 10's as possible.

Tony, spool on that turbo was excellent, I was reaching maximum pressure at 4k rpm. The top end wasn't bad, but my torque used to fall off a little early, due to the motor being all stock and with the stock intake manifold. But it made a GREAT ride as a DD.

The 404's should help his setup out a ton, they will hold the torque curve & power alot farther than the anemic stock cams will. 400 whp will carry the SC-34 to near the high point of its efficiency range, but I think he'll be ok with it with that goal, even on pump gas.

That's what he wants. I just haven't found much info on that turbo with higher HP figures. He may be changing turbo's or hopefully just getting a new turbine housing because he just got an original inlinePRO T4 manifold for a smoking deal. Does anyone know if anyone makes a T4 housing for an SC34?

Being that Precision didn't come out with a 3476 like its 58mm 4476 brother (only the 3431), I would say no, due to the fact that most (if not all) T4 turbine housings were built to utilize a stage 5 P-trim or larger exhaust wheel. I could be wrong though, maybe Mac (the Shodan) can shed some light on that.

Nope. SC34 will not fit a T4 using its Stage III wheel. Even going higher will be a severe mismatch.

Thanks guys! I haven't been able to find a housing. I wonder what would be a good T4 turbo that would be similar in response to the SC34. He wants to either have a nice spooling/DD turbo or go with one that is larger and less "spool friendly" in his words exactly.

Well, he can't have both. Especially in a T4. He needs to make up his mind which one he wants before any further suggestions can be given.

Tony, I think his best bet is to reflange the Inline T4 mani to a T3, or sell it & get the Inline T3 SS. The SC34 will more than hold its own in T3 footprint. Preferably .63 a/r.
