***As this thread gets longer, I will point out the "important" pages, ie the ones with the pictures(because we all know thats all that anybody cares about on here ).***

Im restraining myself to work on this only past 9pm(and all day Sundays), because as many know I have ALOT to do besides this. But, being a car nut at heart, I have to get my hands on something, otherwise I will go INSANE.

The goal:
RWD boosted H22 in a del sol. Id like to see a sub-2000 lb final weight, and at least 300 rwhp daily driven. This will put me easily into the 11s, and I think thatll be fast enough for me(or almost anyone). Since I dont live anywhere near a 1/4 track, it wont be a track *****. I plan on driving it every day, rain or shine during the summer.

So, this thread will go into detail about how my Im going to pull this off.

First things first, bust out the plasma cutter and start cutting!






Well, after getting most of the trunk out of there(ok all if it), I realized I will not be able to save the rear window. At least the functionality of it. Oh well, save 50 lbs, RIP power rear window.
I am using a stock front suspension setup out of a 5th gen civic, and HCP motor mounts to put the H22 in the front of these cars. This way all the axle hassles are out of the way, and I just have to make UCA and upper strut mounting locations.

You see the "strut tower brace" looking thing there, thats basically to get the proper locations so that Im not just pissing in the wind with the locations.

To keep the spindles from wandering by themselves, Ill be using the stock units on the spindle sides, and machine a tie rod w/Heim joint that will connect to the body. Done.

Here are some misc pictures of the car and surrounding new shop. Sorry its a mess, still moving in.


This is the del sol that was all smashed up last spring. This is the remnants of that crash, and the cure will be to CUT IT OUT, and tube the front end as well.

Oh ya, I wondered how light this would be w/out any suspension or anything attached. I almost threw it across the room! No joke. In other words, yes you can pick up the rear end with one hand, and the front with two

More tidbits:
The gas tank will go in the front, in the old engine bay. I will be building a cage to surround this out of 8 guage 304 stainless steel Its heavy, but Its alot better than being dead if someone hits me front dead one(ill pry be dead anyway, but at least i wont burn to death).
First thing is to get all the structural issues worked out, then I will go into the small things like wiring, shifting, and throttle(they are big, but I have them worked out on paper).
Yep, should be interesting, considering I have only seen a handful of RWD converted Hondas(two I think to be exact).

Why would you use stainless over chromoly to build a cage around the fuel cell? There's no need to be lugging around 50lbs more than you have to! That stainless is waaayyy too heavy!

I wouldnt need that much I dont think maybe 15 ft max.
The cage/frame Im just doing out of mild, for cost/availability.

Im still wondering if I should just cut the floor out and tin it. Any input? This would probably be the last step(ill be keeping the primary rails underneath reguardless). So Ive got some time...

if we cant save the rear window in Jens del Sol, AWD will be the next course of action. Shes sticking with her B series becasue I figured out an adapter, so w00!

maybe as a summer project ill toss my spare D15 swap into my EK chassis thats sitting here rusting

 

I know its way off cource but that awd station wagon is what I was thinking of using. I probably have about 200 or so hp. anyway I dont want a stupid fast car just something that can hold the power. I figure those old honda wagons should be able to take about 200hp what do you think? something like a retro fit on a del sol.
