Default Running to rich question

I seen other threads say that by too running rich, you could damage your rings. At what point do you know that you are running way too rich? Is it at the point when your ecu throws code 13? So if you don't throw code 13 (assuming you know you're not running lean), then you wouldn't be running so rich as to ruin your rings? Can someone chime in on this?

Running lean will damage the rings. Rich will just make the engine sooty.

Run TOO rich, like if it's misfiring, and you will "wash out your rings" or basically wash the oil off of the cylinder walls with gas.

It's not an immediate failure, just a much higher wear issue.

Now when you say this, this kind of gets me worried. I'm running VAFC and on cold starts at idle, I would get misfires, sometimes only in one, sometimes in all four. But when the car warms up and I reset the ecu. It's all good. No more misfires. No codes at all. I've checked my plugs and the only black thing that was on there was around the tip of the thread of the spark plug. Should I be worried?

Using 440's and VAFC is set at -18 @ 1000k
Any higher than that and it idles like crap.

*shrug* I'm not sure. I think WOT running uber rich will be worse, since the quantity of fuel unburnt will be a lot more. Probably not a big deal at idle. I'm not an expert, and I have never done/seen it.

You mean take away more fuel? -18 is too much fuel? Taking away more will make my car idle like crap.

Wow, that's a lot of fuel. Maybe I should add more fuel. Maybe that will stop my cold start misfire. My car is tuned to but only at WOT.

huh, that's wierd!! My AFC is set at -50% for low throttle. I have a wide band and it even shows I run under 11:1 afr. -10% would probably kill me from exhaust fumes

-18% is fine if the car idles smooth. It all depends on fuel pressure and the injectors. Mathamaticly -18 sounds rich but the larger injectors take so long to open you may need to increase the duty cycle at idle so you get enough fuel. plus, god and mr davis only know what the timing is like.. Honestly the way i setup idle with the afc hack is just to set the lowest ne point as low as it goes and crank the **** back and forth until it runs smooth. scientific? no. do i care? no. it works fine. I make well over 3.5whp at idle so screw you all...oh wait i run uberdata... expect 3.25whp with the hack, suckers

ahahaha

I always get code 13 when I go part throttle into boost.

Lean those ******* out........ start at -35% and go further negative from there...u might have to adjust the idle on the throttle body though to get it to set right....

Oh and Ya Dont believe all of these Keyboard Mechanics on here who claim all this bogusness about running home made stuff..... Remember..They arent responsible for your motor when it blows up only you are..... And another thing..they surely arent gonna come on here and admit that their motor blew up after they proclaimed that their homemade **** was the best thign since sliced bread just cause they are embarassed asshats
