Default is this rod useable?

Looks like someone tried to pry it or something. Can I sand it down or something?

eagle rod. It looks like there would still be a gap after a hone.

why potential sacrifice your motor over a 250$ set of rods?

get some new ones..

true that...its like peace of mind knowing everything in your motor is new or up specs rather then that slight doubt that something might go wrong

Standard disclaimer, without having the rod in my hand its hard to know for sure... that said, the cap looks like it drew down solidly by the looks of the split line, so a careful dressing with a shaped oil stone is likely appropriate.

Same disclaimer as BigMoose
I think the rod is fine and the gap will not hurt strength

why don't you just call the manufacturer and just get one rod, because its not worth the time to take it all apart if it fails.

I don't think that mark has anything to do with prying. It is just part of the manufacturing process. It probably came that way when it was new.

I have seen that mark before..

when people who dont 100% know what they are doing and they tap the piston down in the block the big end hits the crank and makes that mark..seen it way to many times..

with that said I have built more than a hand full of engines that the first person trying to install did this to..just took the rods to the machine shop and had a very slight hone done on them and was good to go..
