through lie after lie from people and me pretty much learning as i go along. ive seem to have aquired the most random setup i have seen. after researching codes i found out i have a d15z1 vtec e head with a y7 block and a really short geared tranny i was told was ex.
ive researched but ive never seen this set up and the z1 is the least talked about head
i wanna open boost and be able to bounce off the redline cus i know i wont have traction lol
any info you can give me on the head? its stamped p07-1 i thought it was a jdm vtec head cus it was originally on a block only stamped as d15b
research says its from a vx 92-95 vtec e d15z1
is the head good? roller rockers say to reduce friction so can i rev higher? what should i set my rev limit to, a stock y7 or a stock z1? does rev limit consist of the head or blocks capabilities?
i just wanna know more about this setup in general.
wether i should set vtec at 3k like vtec e or 5k like regular vtec?
for more info on the car, it is on boost and e85 with quality parts all around but stock head block and tranny until i put lsd. its my daily driver
any info is appreciated thank you in advance

rev limit should be set where it stops making power! (only accuratly seen on a dyno)
I would get another daily, because you ARE going to run into problems one way or another having a boosted car.
The head needs to be changed for a z6 head. If you have the VTEC-E valve cover they are sought after and you could get some $ for that.
Swapping the head would be relativly cheap, finding a z6 longblock would be cheap aswell.

i have another vehicle to drive if anything happens to my turbo teg. having a turbo car let alone your only vehicle, is a pain! youll have problems big or small.
I canr agree with needing a second car. I daily drove my integra boosted for years. yes i had issues here and there but never anything bad enough that i would need a second car.
The VTEC-E is not boost friendlty. you can get a single cam vtec long block for 200-400 bucks why waste time with something that wont work. Listen to what people are telling you. Rev limit has to do with valve train mainly you dont want valve float. Also the engine will only make power to a certain RPM. If its a stock single you can safely take it to 7000-7200 if its a vtec version and its not going to hurt it to bang off the rev limiter. If its a stock engine your not going to be makign GOBS of power that each gear is going to bang off the rev limiter anyhow.

and thank you thats what i was asking for, confirmation that i can take it to 7200 safely in a stock sohc.
so i should tell my tuner to dyno it, (they tune on a dyno already) and then on the chart i juast pick the highest rpm at which its still making power and set that as the limit?
thank you for your clear answer
Well with a stock 1.6 vtec not with that vtec-e junk
When vtec turns on with that motor is closes valves more for better fuel economy. It's gong to be an all out turd

FOUND IT!
"Generally the VTEC point will be 5500-5700 rpm on a stock engine, 4500-4800 rpm with intake & exhaust, 3000-3200 rpm for supercharged applications. Aftermarket cams generally require a high VTEC point. "

ill set that vtec @ 3,100 and enjoy my economic car while i daily drive
