Default residue in my turbo possible motor is burning oil???

i have kind of a carbon with a little bit mix of oil built up on the air side of my turbo. i dont think the turbo seals are bad cause its not like there is massive oil leaks anywhere, and there is no oil in the wastegate, bov, or charge piping. is it possible that if the motor is burning oil it will show in the turbo? my guess is that the rings might be bad and the oil is being burnt in the motor first and then leaving the residue in the turbo... but i cant figure why its on the air side.. its not in the filter at all, just around the edges of the wheel. and its like caked on, its not straight oil... anyone with any thoughts???

If you're not running any lines pre-turbo then the only way oil would get there is through a turbo leak. I had that "cake" you're talking about on my turbo because my catch can was hooked up to recirculate and it never caused any problems. I say if there's no smoke don't worry about it
