I don't want to remove the contents of the head just the head from the block.
I did a search and all I came up with was this:
step 1. disconect the battery
step 2. unplug all of the sensors and hoses
step 3. remove the exhaust manifold and intake manifold
step 4. remove the head bolts and mark them so you can put them back in the same holes
step 5. go back and double check to make sure every thing is disconected
step 6. find a pry bar. put it under the edge of the head and lift easy. DO NOT STUFF THE PRY BAR BETWEEN THE HEAD AND THE BLOCK. if it doesn't come right up move to a different corner of the head and pry it again.
step 7. clean it
step 8. put it back on.
step 9. you HAVE to torque all of the head bolts in order
your done...
Should I drain my oil and coolant before I do this? Any pointer to make this easier. I have my helms but it just shows how to take the head apart and then take it off.

Oops, you have DOHC, lemme give you more specific directions
- make sure engine is COLD
- drain the coolant and oil
- disconnect both radiator hoses, heater hose and another hose by the distributor total of 2 large hoses, 1 medium and 1 small hose
- remove intake manifold bolts, or you can disconnect all the sensor from behind it, the bypass coolant hose and the IM bracket and remove the IM with the head, depending how accesible is your IM bolts. suggestion, use a slim ratchet with 2" extension, for the middle bottom row. I prefer to remove the IM and pull them towards the back
- pull out the fuel rail and injectors out, use oil on the o-ring when putting it back in, be careful not to drop the injector filter.
- remove exhaust manifold
- undo the cam caps in order, including the distributor( remove the lower 2 bolts, otherwise you need to reset your timing if you undo the upper bolt) then remove both cams and t-belt. you may need to pull out the hi pressure hose for the power steering pump so the cams and the gears can have room to get out
- remove Power steering pump upper bracket
- undo the head bolts in correct sequence and I don't recommend to re-use it as they strecth, get ARP studs, you can re-use those over and over again
when you're done clean and dry the area and use a new headgasket.

EDIT: make sure you put the dowel pins on both corner back on

If it were me, i would leave the intake manifold on the head. Leave the exhuast all conected in the car...just undo it from from the head. Also, you could leave all the fuel componets in...just need to disconect the in/outlets.

Why do the cams need to be removed? Can't I just pull the T-Belt off of the gears? Then pull the head? Or is there somthing else?
Just a bit of info for you guys.. when doing a Head R&R... just keep the intake manifold on at the same time, I have done so many head gasket jobs on Hondas/Nissans/Mitsu's and its way easier. I can easily pull off a honda head in less than 30mins. (D-series)
Trust me, when I turned flate rate the light became much more clearer..
