Can you install head studs without removing head/replacing HG?

You will 100% have to replace the headgasket, because even God can't replace head studs without loosening the head from the block. Any way you look at it, even if you were to get the studs out with the head still resting on the block, that means the headstuds are not torqued down anymore with the nuts. Any time you remove something, you take the torque away from it, therefore the head lifts up from the bock, rendering the head gasket useless. Save yourself time and money and replace the headgasket.

Why would this cause the head to warp? It sounds perfectly reasonable to me, but I'm not expert, thats why I posted.

Im sure it would be fine if all the head bolts were loosened, and replaced one at a time.

each headbolt is supposed to be loosened 1/3 of the way at a time in the correct untorquing sequence.
altho im sure you could get away with it, its not the best idea IMO
