Or don't get a turbo.

fuel management! its not an option... its a neccesity... nowadays with all the technology around and the fact that it doesnt cost that much anymore... fuel management is the #1 cause of problems nowadays imo... some people may say #1 problem is tuning... i believe ur fuel management is only as good as ur tuning and/or ur tuners tuning

I know its a broken record , but proper fuel management is the key.

Whether you decide on VAFC and FMU or standalone, proper fuel management is the key.

Don't think a standalone will be the end-all for the safe operation of the engine. All other componenets of the turbo system have to brought up to par. An ECU can only do so much, if the fuel pump is shotty, or you cheap out on the injectors then you are screwed.

The term "fuel management" is an all-encompassing-control and tuning requirement, not just a slap-on solution.

Randy

Everyone seems to suggest the Hondata on this board. It seems complex for those without OBD I (you have to get an OBD I, then convert it to fit your OBD II car, etc.) Is Hondata always brought up because alot of people have it, or is it just the best thing out there right now? I have seen ads for the new AEM standalone, and it seems simpler and more flexible. Im just grasping for straws here, Im really pretty ignorant when it comes to standalones, but as I start to think deeper into planning for a turbo, Im thinking more along the lines of what ImportReview said.

the reason why alot of people turn to hondata is:
1. its a standalone computer
2. different stages for the people who cant afford to buy a stage 4b hondata or aem ems
3. you get excellent customer support from hondata
4. did i mention that its a standalone?

i know a type-r that uses it on track on the NASA series and he says it's wonderful and the guys at hondata are smart and clever for developing this system just for honda's..but i also heard things about the aem ems and how good it is..plus i went to sema and talk to the AEM guys....
back on topic: so do you guys think i will be find boostin on a stock engine for about 3 months with no upgrades?!?!
comments plz thanks ITR-1303

you forgot to mention the price, the full price for an OBD swap + all the Hondata equipment. I dont r
member of the top of my head but it is somewhere between $1800-$2300, not exactly sure.

EDIT: IMO though reason your reason #3 might help ofset the cost of getting a Hondata, Hondata's CS is gonna be excellent cause they deal with nothing but Hondas.
