Reading a Twin Screw *lysholm/Whipple* map ?
Im trying to figure out what twin-screw to pick up. Now im having a problem reading the maps. Now i wanted to match it to a turbo compressor map but had no luck with that. Im trying to figure out what would go with a 2.8L to 3.0L motor nicely.

Lysholm doesn't make counter-clockwise turning blowers, so if its intended for a Honda you're out of luck!
Assuming its for the Passat: For dimensioning the blower I suggest you first determine the performance you want to achieve (be realistic). Then, calculate the compression ratio you need. A crude estimation is the power you want divided by the power you have now. For instance: if you aim for 250HP, based on 170HP stock you'd need a CR of about 1.5. The Lysholm blowers can be used upto CR of about 2..2.3 I've been told.
Next, select a blower that fits the engine based on its displacement per revolution, the displacement of the engine and the engine and blower rev range. Remember that the crank revolves twice before the engine displaces its rated amount of air! Don't choose a blower that revs much lower then it can, this will go to the detriment of low rpm torque.
If you are so lucky that there are more then one suitable blowers choose the one with the best adiabatic efficiency at the desired CR.
I strongly suggest to use an intercooler if you run a CR above 1.4..1.5.
If this post hasn't deterred you you should really look into Corky Bell's book "Supercharged!" (ISBN 0-8376-0168-1). Its a great book to get you started and it will answer most of the questions you have now and also those you aren't aware of at this time :-).
Oh yeah... on my website, in the supercharger section, there's some blower physics stuff about the benefit of intercoolers.
Have fun,
Mark.
