quite 3" turbo exhaust?
Hello I'm in the process of buying a 99 turbo hatch it has 3" down pipe exhaust with a 3" high flow cat, I'm looking for something stock looking and stock sounding (if possible) thanks for any suggestion and sound clips are great. ps car has a 3"inch in cannon on it now and also comes with a mangnaflow 3in 3 out (brand new still in box) will this be quite?

Re: quite 3" turbo exhaust?
Your not going to get anywhere near stock sounding and have any performance. The cars are much quieter with cats on them thats for sure. Now i would say your main problem is that fart canister. its basically just a hollow echoing tube.
This is what i did on my DC to make it pretty quiet and i still have full performance of a free flowing exhaust.
I used a kteller weld up tubing kit. i then modified the mid pipe and installed a magnaflow round muffler not resonator in the mid pipe. and at the back i installed a magnaflow oval muffler. both mufflers are flow through with perferations inside to absorb exhaust sound. the car is about as loud as a stock neon weather im lightly driving or fully boosting. Well at least out of the exhaust, the dump tube is a different story, when then wastegate oipens up it gets very loud from the engine compartment.
another thing you can do if your really that picky about the noise is reroute the wg dump into the exhaust pipe, be sure to add a flex section to the dumptube and try to get it down stream further back like past the engine for a smoother transition.
you can probably get away with using you exsiting 3" tubing and installing two mufflers and with a cat on the car it should be relativly quiet. but the thing is if you want a turbo car you cant have a stock sounding car and you've entered into the wrong hobby

Re: quite 3" turbo exhaust?
Thanks that sounds like what i'm gonna do, i'll get the magnaflow put on and if it's still too loud i'll put on a second round muffler, the pipe does have a resonator in it so do you think this will help? i'm just hoping to keep a low profile, cops are dicks around here. the waste gate dump tube is routed back into the exhaust. In my 97 i have b116a2 with dc header stock piping with a tanabe tuner medallion hyper on it, i'm hoping for this 99 turbo to be atleast that quite, i know i'll never get back to stock sounding but i'm hoping for close, here's a pic of the setup before it went into the car

Re: quite 3" turbo exhaust?
the resonator isnt going to jack. just do the two mufflers. there cheap enough on summit. i think there both like 70 bucks. just dont get a polished muffler for the rear. just get the stainless version and you can even paint it black and it will be super stealth. the cops around here are dicks too and i havent had one problem with the setup i have now and before i had a thermal turbo exhaust and got two tickets. the turbo should be quieter than the all motor with the exhaust setup i explained. the turbo it self acts like a muffler as well. unless you had the silencer in the tanabe

Re: quite 3" turbo exhaust?
I've ran 2 cheap summit resonators on my 3" turbo-back on my EF, and it was quieter than my friend's stock SRT-4 cruising and at idle. It was a tad too loud, so this time around I did a single resonator, e-cutout, and stock muffler after that. It's saved my butt around here several times.

no sorry. there considered mufflers. especially considering you can get a round flow through muffler from magnaflow and a round flow through resonator.

Re: quite 3" turbo exhaust?
Thanks for all the reply's dude might have sold the car from under me, even after i sold my quad to have the cash now, if i get the car i'll be sure to post up pics etc and what i decided to do. but right now i think if i get the car i'll put on the magnaflow and if it's still too loud i'll put on a second round muffler, but that e-cuttout is a great idea i dont know why i didn't think of it, thanks guys, just kinda bummed out right now

Re: quite 3" turbo exhaust?
Asking for quiet is going to get you so many responses. Some people have a different idea of what they think is quiet. I'm running a 3" downpipe and full 3" piping to a magnaflow muffler. To me it's quiet and sounds great. Looks like a stock muffler just with a 3" outlet. I even went with natural finish so it was not all bling blang

Re: quite 3" turbo exhaust?
sound is also affected by the size of the turbo. So, if someone has a 3inch thermal R&D on their car and is running a big turbo, it will be a bit louder than someone whos running a 14b for example. However, i am running a 60-1 turbonetics with the 3inch thermal and to me, my car is decently quiet.

Re: quite 3" turbo exhaust?
yeah the size and trim of the turbine wheel will make it louder or quieter . i personally have a stage 5 t3 .82 turbine which is relatively large so my thermal i used to run was way to loud for my liking. Although the deep tone was amazing, the sound in the car got annoying.
