when you add a turbo to a honda, civic or integra, does it quiet down the large 3" exhaust? whats a good quiet set-up? a quiet turbo + exhaust combo. TIA

i think so but ive never driven a non turbo honda, my full 3 inch exhaust with no cat and a 3 inch straight thru muffler is quieter than my old car which just had 2 1/2 inch cat back.

it makes a huge difference. i heard a stock ls with testpipe and free flow exhaust and it was so loud i cant describe how bad

Mine's pretty throaty...turbo w/3" custom using a dynomax bullet for resonator, magnaflow 3" muffler and 3" cat

Quiet is in the eardrum of the beholder, but personally the best exhaust that you can get that's quiet is gonna be 2.25 inch with a big louvered core glasspack and the biggest muffler you can find. And that is gonna flow like crap.

not only does it make it quieter, but it pretty much changes the whole exhaust note. Makes it much deeper and aggressive sounding, rather than the buzzy sound.

Run open downpipe like i did for a week. So much fun and people tend to stare at you and your car as if its going to tear a hole in the ground.

I may be wrong, but it will only run quieter if you're running an external wastegate. On my greddy kit, it's still the same loudness, but on my friend's drag 3 LS, it got a lot quieter.

here's my experience... when on the throttle, all you hear from my car is the turbo whining and the engine reving, the exhaust noise is pretty much nonexistant..

on the other hand, in a similar car w/o a turbo system and stock motor, all you can hear is the exhaust noise while on the throttle..

as for the turbo quieting the exhaust, not by much.. you can't have be best of both worlds..

I doubt the type of wastegate used has anything to do with it. If it's external or internal, the difference would be open wastegate (loud and annoying lawnmower sound) or closed wastegate (routed back into the exhaust, sounds good, all you hear is the turbo screaming).

I still dunno how you guys do it. I went 2 weeks no downpipe when I first got my setup going, and the exhaust would give me headaches & make me feel bleh. Dunno how you guys that do it for months/years can stand it.

wastegate has nothing to do with quieting down the exhaust(until it opens up).

But the turbine housing is just like another muffler since the exhaust passes through 1 more thing.

Yes, the turbo quiets it down a TON. My mustang was quieter with open 3.5" downpipe than it was with shortie headers, catted X-pipe, and 2 chamber flows when N/A.
