If your engine is taking in fresh air directly from the blow off valve under vaccum, instead of having to get it the long way around, it could reduce lag. I'm not saying that is definately what is happening, but it sounds like it.

I have a vortech blow off valve. It definately feels like it spools up quicker but maybe lost some high end. It's like I lowered the power band. I had very little power until I hit vtec before and now it's a nice and smooth. I guess I was getting too much compressor surge??
