quick b18c5 + boost questions
I'm going for the Drag 3 kit + bigger injectors and JE 9:0 pistons. I'm aiming for 280-300whp.
1: Will I need new rods?
2:
I've come to the conclusion that I do not need new engine management like hondata. I'm planning to use a vafc to tune AF (lean the bigger injectors). This will do fine as long as I don't need to adjust timing. Will I need to adjust timing in any way to be safe?
Thanks

As far as I've know it's normal to leave the timing stock when going boost (correct me if I'm wrong). But if so why would you need a hondata instead of a cheaper vafc?

depends about the timing that something your tuner will have to work out, but hondata is a great investment and is a heck of alot better than the hack. At least use uberdata. If money is an issure you might want to hold off for a bit until you have a lil saved cause there are always factors. If you are gonna go with pistons I would def go with rods at the same time and if you don't have the cash right now then I would also save until I had enough for both

Anyone have experience with tuning of this sort, or care to comment?

You have an ITR motor, you're boosting it, and you're worried about money? Rods cost all of $500-$600. That's 1/10th of what you spent on the motor. Why would you want to do all this work, and spend all that money to blow something up because you didnt spend another $500? And do hondata while you're at it. The best money you can spend on a turbo kit is the ems and tuning.
And to semi help with your problem, a local guy boosted his itr motor with the same kit you're thinking of. No hondata, vafc tuning basicaly, and blew it up in about 2 weeks. Spend the extra money the first time. It costs twice as much in the long run.
