Default Question regarding internal wastegates.

I was just wondering, if someone were to piece together a junkyard kit or their own turbo kit together and they picked up a turbo with internal wastegates how would they adjust boost, by the actuator arm?

For example a wrx turbo is set at around 14psi but for a honda application how would you adjust that down to say 6, 8, or even 10 lbs? Would you just have to bend the actuator arm or what's involved with that. Thanks.

i think an MBC would work fine. don't bend the arm, then it'll be hard to put it back the way it was if you ever need to. what some turbo dodge guys do is cut the arm in half, thread both ends and get one of those little connector nuts and that way you can adjust the length pretty easily.

edit:

found a pic:

I think eh was talking about how to set it, like how if it were a external he would set the spring. Not how to control how much boost.

whoops. well in that case you can go to the yard and try to find a wastegate that's set for that level of boost and try to rig it up. i don't think you can open up a wastegate and change springs/diaphrams, can you?

you would have to buy a new vacuum assembly... may be possible to find one with an adjustable actuator, but the best thing to do would be find one w/a really low pressure setting and then use another controller to let pressure through

Could you just remove the internal wastegate and use a external wastegate? Seems like it would be easier to do that (unless it is hard to convert).

Just hack it in half and thread it. Simple. I did it on my last set up:

You mean on an internal wg set up? If you mean that, then yes, you can.
