Default Question on Helping Keep Cool under Boost!

Ok I have 2 basic weird questions lol. Here in El Paso, Texas, The Weather is horrible in summer. We are at 100 Degree+ on a daily basis. I really want to do everything i can to prevent over heating or even getting close to getting hot. Most of my friends running turbos are already having to deal with the temp needle rising!!

So my first question: When you mount a big intercooler/ or any intercooler for that matter, they always block the Radiator from getting that additional cooling Air. I already have a FAL 12" fan being a puller, but i was wondering if it would be efficent to get like a 8" or even 10" fan on the other side being a Pusher fan.... (Just to assist, seeing as the intercooler does block air going throught to it. Not only that buy when your going 0MPH, your still getting air pushed through for additional cooling....

Next question: I dont see this too often, but i have seen it before. Some people over heat when the car sitting still/ or what not..... but ive seen were poeple will put one small 8" Puller fan on the back side of the intercooler to assist in cooling.

I really dont see were these ideas could be bad ideas... but maybe not to efficent. Please for thoose with tips on keeping cool or any idead on my questions... let me know what you think. Thanks in advance!!!

Well while the car is sitting it over heats because Coolant isnt flowing as much, and theres no air besides the fans being pushed into the radiator, you could get an intercooler sprayer with c02, you can get a different rad like a koyo or an ebay mishimoto, Maybe try using manifold wrap and wrapping up your manifold, to keep heat away from the radiator

try a hondata intake manifold gasket, suppose to keep intake temperature down,

you could try the extra fan idea, i suppose it couldnt hurt, also make sure your coolant is fresh and not old and brown and rusty and ****

some people suggest the redline Water wetter which keeps coolant temperatures down

these are just all suggestions and probably if you did them all you would reduce your temperature a decent ammount

http://www.redlineoil.com/products_coolant.asp

· Doubles the wetting ability of water
· Improves heat transfer
· Reduces cylinder head temperatures
· May allow more spark advance for increased torque
· Reduces rust, corrosion and electrolysis of all metals
· Provides long term corrosion protection
· Cleans and lubricates water pump seals
· Prevents foaming
· Reduces cavitation corrosion
· Complexes with hard water to reduce scale

im not positive on this but isnt their a heat like blanket of cover that could cover the hotside at least, what kind of wrap, or blanket, cover options are there? exhaust wrap seems alittle difficult on the compressor housings.

move your radiator and fmic so they sit right next to each other. make sure you have good air flow to your rad

my car would overheat sitting still.. put a puller fan on it, and it solved everything... no more overheating... I live in GA, so the weather is similar....

You are talking about a Front Mount Intercooler right???

I had overheating problems at first and I bypassed the radiator fan sensor by connecting both the wires together so my radiator fan stays on at all times. That fixed the problem. As far as putting a fan on the intercooler, that'll probably help intake air a little but that's not going to keep you from overheating.

..IMO, the best way to keep your boosted car cool, is to do all you can.

-after you know that the motor is healthy, ie: head/ head gasket

1- use an after market aluminum Radiator, full size if you can fit it(fluidye,PWR,C&R,Koyo)
2- use a low temp thermostat(mugen, spoon) or none at all.
3- HPC or high temp coating on your manifold, hotside of turbo, and downpipe. you can also double up with thermo-tec manifold wrap.
4- use more water than antifreeze and add redline water wetter.
5- use a turbo blanket.
6- use a high performance fan, the biggest one that will fit. i use a pusher cause it works better that way and it looks better.
..as far as a fan mounted on the intercooler, uummm. no
...and if you don't have to drive the car when its 115 degrees out, then dont.
