Question about intercooler for JRSC
Ok probably asked before... but i did search... I dont know much at all about forced induction.... that is why i am asking..... The jackson charger for the D16 is non intercooled but I am curious why this would not work... I did a quick crude 5 min drawing on Paint so yes laugh... but it gets my point across.... why would what im picturing not work.... wouldnt it cool the air before it went to the charger? Thus dropping intake temps and making colder air which would mean safer temps and more power?

To my opinion, it might worked if it was shorter in pipings, might have low/bad throttle repsonse? Goodluck though.

the intercooler is going to cause more restriction, you'll probaly loose power, the point of having it after is because the air gets heated up ALOT then it is compressed, the cooler the air the more dense and more power. you really cant cool the air in any way (but nitrous) enough for it to be as cold as it would be intercooled (after the SC)

Ok so even if I say had an intercooler close to the charger itself say where the actual intake should be coming off... have a cooler there and then the filter coming off so the the whole setup is just on the original inatke side of the motor....but if i did this u are still saying that the charge would still be hot because it has yet to go threw the charger.... unline a turbo where it has already gone through the turbine etc...

Yeah I already know about that.. but i was just curious about this.. I didnt really see the disadvantage of it... but now looking at it the air charge would warm back up after it went through the charger...damnit i wasted 5 min on that drawing!

It wouldn't work because what you have diagrammed would not be able to get the incoming air any cooler than ambient. Now if it was an air/water cooler and you had ice water running through it, it would be a different story. But other than for dragging at the track, that would be pretty impractical.

NO!!
the air must be cooled AFTER it was compressed, compressing the air rush air particle to colapse together thus creating heat that you want to dissipate into the intercooler.
cooling the air before the blower will not get any noticable power increase.

An air-air intercooler mounted before the inlet to the blower won't be able to drop temps enough to notice any after blower temp reduction.
With the JRSC you have a few choices for intercooling:
1. aquamist and water injection (like mentioned before)
2. the LHT style intercooler cores mounted in the JRSC plenum - actually those are Laminova cores that are used
(I can't find the LHT website anymore ???)

3. a water-air intercooler mounted aside the JRSC using a separated plenum to direct charge air to the intercooler and then back to the intake post back inside the plenum.
(there was a post on H-T showing a similar set-up) - although it did not show any guts of the set-up which is what we were interested in anyways.....not the other car show crap.
4. there are also "stck" type intercoolers that the GTP huys use with their Eaton blowers that may be usable to your application.
These are the usual choices...there may be others. I did ALOT of research about any methods to drop charge air temp on a JRSC for my daily driver Focus (case it's dang slow).

Exactly. You want to cool the air AFTER it is compressed. Thats the problem...you have to somehow squeeze an IC in between the charger and the manifold. Or run an A/W as described above.
Honestly, if you cant afford an LHT IC, water injection is your best bet.
