question about fuel setup
I went to inline pro yesterday and they installed my rc 440's and the vortech fmu. When i went back to the shop the car ran like crap. I couldn't take it above 3.5k or it would bog real bad. They set the VAFC to -45% the whole way across. They told me that they need to install the map defensor because the greddy blue box is messing things up. It is running extremely rich from what they said, will getting rid of the blue box and installing the map defensor solve this problem. If someone could explain what needs to be done i'd appreciate it. I'm not saying anything bad about inline pro, i just would like to know what this will change since they are stripping the blue box out of the car and what all this will correct. Thanks

Yea, i know that, but that's not what they are doing. When I asked the guy about the VAFC hack, he looked at me as if i was stupid and said that's not what they are doing.
You don't need the blue box and you dont need a missing link and you don't need a FMU.... all you need is those 440's (I should have mine next week), the afc to be installed the way its meant to be, in between the map and the ecu.... and -40% across the board from low-high throttle pretty much and the tuning place can change that as they need.
Hmm but then again I remember you said you were running more then like 9psi or 10psi of boost so you might have wanted the fmu in there with a tiny *** disc..... either way make sure all your vacum sources are taken care of and setup right, the bogging sounds like your running RICH as hell.... I would check and make sure the afc is working properly etc..... other then that keep me posted cause next week I will be running the afc hack and wanna know how things go for you

well then hell, i don't know what they are doing. They have installed the 440's, the vortech fmu, and now are doing the map sensor and missing link. I don't think they wanted to do the VAFC hack, so as long as it's done right, i won't complain.
Like everyone else said.. 440's and an fmu is WAAAY too much fuel. I'd assume it's a 12:1..
I'd say maybe 310's and an fmu and that's all you need. Good luck leaning it out enough..

I don't know, this is what inline pro suggested to use. The 440's, the fmu(unsure what disk size), map defensor and missing link or is that the same thing. Anyway, i think jinxproof even said that's what to roll with, so i'm not gonna argue with them. I'll see after tonight and i'll report more tomorrow. I just hope she runs nice and smooth cause i plan on taking her to the track friday night.

Well.. inline uses 440's and an fmu on their cars because b motors w/ decent sized turbos needs all the fuel because they make power. A single cam motor with a small turbo doesn't need that much fuel. I'd ditch the 440's and get smaller injectors if you want to keep the fmu. Hell, you'd probably be fine w/ the stock 235cc injectors and the fmu.
Basically what inline is doing is removing the blue box entirely, because it's not needed anymore and installing a check valve. You setup is basically like the older greddy kit that just used an fmu. I know people who ran 10+ psi on the stock injectors w/o problems, so 440's will surely be too big/overkill.

thanks for your input, i guess i'll see after tonight. I really can't do much now, but i'm hoping with leaning it out alot that it will run smooth again. If not, i'll get some smaller injectors, maybe 370's because this motor is not gonna stay stock for long. It will be fully built and ready to be put in a hatch. I just hope she's ready for friday. I wonder since they wanted to use these injectors, if they are still to big, will they take them back and exchange them for smaller injectors.
Good luck.. Just one question though... Why build up the sohc motor? For that price you can just get a b-series swap. But.. if you really insist on sticking w/ the sohc motor, you should at the VERY least trash the automatic. They rob alot of power and are very weak.

I think my main inspiration on building the sohc is hate. I just get sick of guys talking trash about sohc's when they can be very deadly. When i swap this motor into a hatch, I will be getting a ls block for my coupe, then build that some, but mainly for a daily driver deal. Well that's what I plan on just having it as, and then go nuts probably. And don't worry, the automatic will be gone once it blows. I didn't plan on getting into this stuff again, so i got the automatic, but the itch came crawling back and now i'm stuck with the tranny. I just keep dumping money into the motor and then when the trany goes, i'll swap.

Anyway, back on topic, I would check your fmu disk, takes 5 seconds and you really can't mess anything up, just pop the top off and snap a pic and post if if you can, otherwise if its a HUGE disk then thats exactly why your car is dying, you need a SMALL disk (5:1) otherwise you have way to much fuel goin in there during boost..... post when you take a look, also when you look at it measure it cause I have ALL the discs and can tell you which one you got in there :D
thanks shadow, i'd appreciate it. How do i know which size disk to use. I know you say 5:1, but what does that represent and how would i know if i need to use a higher disk.
I believe 5:1 is the smallest you can go with the vortech FMU, thats why I say that, at full boost of 7psi you will be adding 35psi to your fuel system ontop of lets say your 40psi making 85psi.... which isen't bad but that sure will be alot of fuel going into your engine :D
Just measure that bitch in inches down to the last 1/32 inch and I'll tell yea what disc it is.

i'm back this morning with good news. After four an a half hours of work the car is running great. Inline pro does a great job. First they installed the map defensor and that eliminated the car reading boost and got that undercontrol. But she was still running extremely rich and no matter what was done on the VAFC the car wouldn't respond. This all goes back to VERTEX MOTORSPORTS installation of all previous parts. They did not soder(spelling) the lines together only twisted them and wraped in electrical tape and they were coming apart. INLINE PRO sodered and street tuned the car for about 2 hours. The car likes to run a little rich, but she runs smooth and pulls hard. I can't say anything bad about INLINE PRO, they close at 7 and worked on my car till 10:30, I was very impressed and will continue to do business with them.
can be very deadly
and a dohc will be that much faster in a hatch
never mine i see u got it right

quick question, what did i have wrong? Yea, i know the dohc will be a lot faster in a hatch, but i really have been impressed and want to keep the sohc. In the end i'll end up with two turbo cars, so I can't complain. From your sig, I like your set up, i used to have an accord with an h22a turbo, those things are no joke.

i wouldn't know, i guess we just sumed up all of honda's motor's dohc vtec, sohc vtec, sohc non-vtec, i already know that the dohc non-vtec are strong. Well look at it this way, we have many platforms to choose from.
Congrats bro!!!! Good to hear your **** is running good, I'm in the middle of installing half stainless half rubber hose on my oil return line (don't have money or ability to do earls so don't yell at me) just have to wait for muffler shop to get done with my 90deg elbow so I can mount my wastegate sideways and put my brand new joe p mbc on there :D I'm stoked..... please everyone pray my oil leak gets eliminated from all this.....
thanks man, i was so happy to hear her start up and not bog and then when i started hearing the bov whistle, i was all gittery like a school girl. I will definitely pray for you man, I know the feeling. I had such a horrible leak i was losing almost a quart a day. Good luck brotha.
