Default Problems with Tranny.......

I posted this in the Tech Section as well, but here is what's going on.

OK, so yesterday I installed a JDM GSR tranny with LSD into my 2000 Si that has a built b16 block. The tach works, but the speedometer does not work at all. I have already replaced the VSS today and it still doesn't work as well as checked the Alternator/SP Fuse under the dash and it is fine. I checked the pins on the clip that attaches to the VSS and all the pins are in place. I am running out of ideas and wondering if anyone can possibly help me out.

Maybe the gear that drives the vss is no good, or maybe there wasn't one on it when you got it. I'm not saying this to be stupid but did you see if the gear was ok before you put it in? there might be some way to check output of the vss but i'm not the one to ask about that. Maybe take out the vss and see if you can look in the hole to see the other gear.

maybe your car is so fast that the vss can't keep up.

Have u changed ur alternator yet? Reason I ask is cause yesterday when that ELD blown fuse crap happened, I lost power to my alternator and my VSS stopped working. Somehow they are interrelated. I am not sure how, but I know ur alternator is going bad so that may have something to do w/ it.

The VSS puts out a 5v square wave signal, hook up a voltmeter to the signal wire and turn the wheels with the car jacked up and the ignition on, you should see a pulsed 5v signal. If you're not then pull the VSS and look down in there for a speedo gear on the diff.

oh ok. that explains it. I didn't know that they used the same fuse. I thought it was just an alternator fuse.

UPDATE:

Took the VSS out of the tranny and cleaned it with parts cleaner/blowed it off with air, then also blew out the plug and rechecked all of the pins. Plugged it in and bam! It worked. I guess something was messing with the connection between the plug and the VSS. Everything is gravy now. Thanks for the replies!
