Default problems with GT30R and GT2871R

hello,

my problem is ,that 2 turbos will be broked after a few miles(3000-4000).allways the part in the middle (CHRA!!??) will be damaged.

now my question is.have someone the same problems.i drive in the cars 14-18 psi.

i take the oil for the turbo from the oil pressure switch at the back side.
do some one know how much pressure must go to the turbo and how much oil must go thru the GT ..R turbo in one minute.
someone say that the pressure must be only between 2- 3.9 psi!?
i have the normal oil pressure from the engine to the turbo.is it to much?
i some hondas the GT..R turbos works perfekt until now ,but in two off them i have this problems.

sorry for my bad english.i come from germany.but i hope some people understand it.

ralf

first, are you sure youre getting TOO much oil?
If you are, try and find a .030" restrictor; several places sell them to fit the GT turbos.
I have over 15,000 miles on my 30/71R with no problems; and come to think of it, no restrictor either.
Make sure your oil return line is nice and straight, no dips below the oil pan bung.

Double check your oil feed line. I had a bunch of problems on 1 car. The engine had good oil pressure, but the line was clogged. When it was originally assembled, the teflon on the inside was rolled over into the hole and was blocking oil flow. It's not likely that you'll damage anything other than the seals in the turbo with too much oil, you probably don't have enough. Put a pressure gauge on the end of the turbo oil feed line.

you ahve to run the water lines to the turbo, i spoke with numerous garrett engineers about this. because of the full stainless steel bearing section (as opposed to ceramic) the waterl ines must be run because the bearings retain more heat and will cause oil breakdown if not properly cooled.

yes yes yes! All of our turbos now come packaged with a sticker that says,"MUST RUN WATER LINES. IF NOT, THE BEARINGS WILL FAIL!". So, water lines hooked up?
And yes, double check your oil feed line, thats what I was getting at by my comment of making sure you have TOO much oil...

my money goes to premature bearing failure due to lack of proper cooling (i.e water lines)

hello,

i have the water lines at the turbo.i cant believe that some one make the turbo without water lines.we her e i germany have no speed limit at the highway.i tune up hondas with turbo for other people.and all cars must run the full speed.when i check the oil line to the turbo,i have enough oil.it comes out of the line like a flood.
and at the oil return line it comes only a little bit out .i think about 3 oz (0,1 liter) in a minute.so i think this is not enough.but what can i do at this moment.what is then wrong with the CHRA from the GT..R .in much other cars it comes more oil out of the oil return line.i think about 10-15 oz (0,3-0,5 liter).in this cars the turbo runs perfekt.
