precision sc61... too big for my setup?
i currently have a ls vtec w/b16 head (99si)
81mm 9:1 endyn rw
eagle rods
turbonetics t4 (not sure on the specs)
tial 40mm wastegate
revhard manifold
3in downpipe
3in exhaust
720cc greddy
hondata 2b w/boost option
aem fuel rail
sx fpr
itr manifold
act 4puck xtreme clutch
greddy bov
arp head bolts
walbro 255lph fuel pump
rite now im dynoed at 285whp @ 13psi... the turbo setup im using is my friends and im gonna trying to get my turbo setup. is a sc61 too big for me? plan on making 300-330whp rite now @ around 15-17lbs of boost for now but in the near future i plan on having around 450whp. the tuner said the t4 turbo that im using rite now isnt efficient at low boost and also im running a stock b16 head which my redline is at 8k rpm doesnt make a better powerband as before when i had a turbonetics t3/t4 .57trim 63ar. what do u guys think? sc61 too big? i want a decent turbo that have a vband for the exhaust and also have room to play with.

sc61 with a t3 turbine instead of the t4 turbine that they offer also. so yes in general t3t4.

Re: (hybrid901)
I have the same beast you speak of. My mods right now are:
JG intake mani
AEM fuel rail
255 Walbro intank pump w/ Racetronix hotwire kit
750cc injectors
AEM cam gears
GSR cams w/ TypeR valve train
MSD 6A w/ext coil
Zdyne Gold ecu
LS tranny (big ****** mistake with my turbo)
Clutch masters stage3
ARP headstuds
Bone stock first gen B16A motor
SC61 turbo
Sparks racing mani
Tial wastegate
2 1/2" intercooler piping
32 x 3.5 x 7 Spearco intercooler
HKS blowoff
3" downpipe & exhaust
I run 14psi on 94 Sunoco pump gas with 1 degree per psi boost retard. I am extremly pleased with the performance of the setup. My tranny is the weak link. I shift the car at 8500rpm. If I speed shift the car the rpm drops to 4800rpm and bogs the car until it hits around 5800rpm( when the turbo hits really hard) then pulls like stupid again. If I power shift the car the rpm falls to around 5400rpm which isn't that bad, but there is a lag for a split second until it hits 5800rpm. I have yet to track it. But my buddies and I were out 2 nights ago on a 4 lane empty road in the country. My friend brought his buddy thats a cop. So we marked out the 1/4 mile with our speedo and spray painted the 1/4 mile. My friends buddy brought out his radar gun and was telling us what our mph was at the end of the 1/4 mile. My car weighs 2820 without me in it, I am 175 pounds. From the start I can't ground first( off throttle shifted into 2nd and bogged) or 2nd gear once the turbo spools, but slammed 3rd and got 108mph out of it at 12psi but spiked to 14psi in 3rd gear. I am very pleased considering the only gear that grounded was 3rd with all the bogging and off throttle shifting from 1 to 2. I believe with my 20" slicks compared to my 17" rims( I compared the 2 tires side by side and I am dropping 2 3/4" in height and about 10 pounds weight savings per rim) I could get inbetween 111- 115mph at the same boost level and propbably a mph or 2 more with good fuel and no boost retard. The B16 motor is tough stock. The last 3 weeks this car has had the **** kicked outta it and still perrs like a pussycat and blows no smoke. Just my 2 cents. Sorry for being winded. But keep in mind where this turbo makes its jam, its at 5800 to 6000rpm. Under that its as flat as **** in a plate.

I used to have a Turbonetics T3/T4 E....it was okay. Now that I opted for a Precision SC61, I have noticed a power gain of 50hp ~ 25tq with same amount of boost! The sorry thing about it is that the Precision was $75 less than the Turbonetics. Must be the name or sumthing..who knows!!

im a nOOb so dont flame me too much if im wrong but why dont you just go for a sc34 or a smaller turbo like that. you'll spool a lot faster and i dont really see the point in gettin an sc61 if your only aiming for ~330 whp. i believe that you should get the smallest turbo that achieves your hp goal, plus a few hp since you'll end up wanting to crank up the boost.

Re: precision sc61... too big for my setup? (tRaCeBuStAbUsTeR)
there are a lot of people making good power with the sc34. it spools quicker so has a bit better powerband for street use. although i love my sc61 cuz it hits like a mule when it finally hits boost oh and get some gsr or better cams, springs n retainers and raise your redline. the sc61 will not wanna just stop at 8200 rpms, it'll keep pullin hard in higher rpms with the right set of cams. I'm using gsr cams and it pulls great up to 8500-8900 rpms.
