Depending on your HP goals it is probably not necessary.Stock head is easily good enough up to the 600 ish range.

Not necessary, but a street oriented, forced induction port job can only help you make more power at given boost levels. It's really up to you and how much money you have. If your on somewhat of a budget, pass on it. If you have a good budget and you want the best you can get, then do it. Lastly...be realistic about that budget.

im looking to get 325-350 hp at the wheels....if i get the head job i would b able to get that at lower boost levels...right????and this way i would b able to keep my motor from messing up down the road because of high boost....i mean....thats what im thinking

To some degree the boost level isn't what breaks parts,it's the power your making.A stock ls will make that kind of hp with out porting.A stock gsr head will easily out flow a ported ls head.I wouldn't spend the money porting a gsr head for that kind of power. It just won't make any difference.

with 300hp, you dont need a port and polish. Concentrate on reconditiining the head with a new valve job and valvetrain. Valvetrain is more important that a port and polish at this hp level. you want to prevent valve float.

another thing to do is check the valvetrain you have if its for the application you plan on using it for.

not all valvesprings/ valvetrain kits are made for UNIVERSAL use. Some are for all motor, some for turbo, etc. The spring rates matter and can determine what is best for the type of use.

If your valvetrain is not matched for a turbo setup, I would suggest getting a different kit that would match for turbo use and the HP level/RPM you plan on taking it up to.

if it has the stiffer springrate for turbo setups that head can make 500-600+ as it sits. focus on a good solid block for now. save the money on headwork and invest in a good quality turbo setup.

get a turbo that meets your hp and powerband goals. also something you can afford.

with enough money im sure you could fit an aircraft carrier under the hood of a civic but that doesnt sound too smart. choose a power goal or track time that you want to acheive. once you have that figured out then build around that. i want it to be fast and powerful will get you headed in pretty much no direction.

early in the post i said that i was looking for around 350 hp to the wheels.....and if i can get a big enough snail so that i can run lower boost then thats what ill do and if not then ill just have to stick with what i can get

Put the money in a good fuel management. With a good tune your car will last a long time no matter what boost level your at (fuel octane limited).
