Default Please help, no power after timing belt - b20T

Please help,
We put a timing belt on a car at our shop

Now the car has no power, revs really slow, builds boost real soon and cuts out and misses.

My first guess was that its a tooth off but the cam gears are dead on along with the crank mark is aligned within a 1/8" of the 1st mark [not the 3 marks]

I was not there when they took everything apart.

I'm kinda leaning towards the cams might be 180 off each. They said they did not move anything however.

Tonight I am going to put #1 or #4 on TDC and see if the valves are open or shut.

Please help, and I thank you for any ideas or suggestions.

well if it ran fine before the tbelt swap, you need to start there.

I wonder if the balancer is damaged? I've heard of cases on other engines where the outer ring got separated from the rubber, causing the marks to slip and move to some other point than TDC.

I know it has to be timing belt related.

I've installed several several timing belts.

The marks line up perfectly

Either its a tooth off on the crank pully [but I'm afraid a tooth either way wont even be close to the marks] or the cams are 180 off.

I was just looking for info on what exactly to check of how to tell whats what.

pull it down, there is a mark on the oil pump, one on the crank sprocket.
both cam gears should be pointing "up". mark on the exh cam should be at 3 oclock, intake cam 9 oclock. remember the cams spin 1/2 the speed of the crank, so once every 4 strokes, the cams are 180* out. make sure you didnt line the crank sprocket up on the dowel pin instead of the timing mark.

I'd check base ignition. There's a chance the distributor is a little off now, that's about the only other thing I can think of.

Thanks guys, I will check them in about an hr when I get to the shop.

I'm curious, if # 1 is at TDC all the valves should be shut right? That would be a good way to tell if the cams are 180 off right?

Check the cogged pulley on the crank itself. Sometimes people goof up and put them on backwards causing the engine to be off 1 or 2 teeth. I forget which way it goes.

He is refering to the TDC marks on the cam gears listed in the top left portion of the pic I posted.
