Default 4 Bar map sensor ok for 10 psi?

The turbo kit im fitting to my b16 is one that someone has built up themselves. It came with what he says is a 4 bar map sensor, im planning on running 10 psi when its running, will this sensor work for 10 psi or is 10 too low for it? I was thinking maybe it doesnt matter because when its mapped it will be set with this sensor and can be compensated for but not too sure.

Also is there anyway i can test it or confirm that it is a 4 bar sensor?

Thanks guys

The map sensor if it is a real 4 bar is good to over 35psi, a stock map sensor will work for 10 psi, what kind of map sensor is it and does it replace the stock one, and go into the oem location???

4 MAP Sensor should be good for up to 58psi, doubt you'll boost your stock B16 to that though hehe.

4Bar is good til approx. 44 psi, not 58, and not 35
It will be fine for 10psi, but a 2.5 or 3 bar will have better resolution

you guys are forgetting to take atmospheric pressure into consideration. the 2.5 will have better resolution, but if you are talking about the omni/hondata 4 bar, it fits like stock.

if you plan on running 10 psi safely, please dont try to do it on a stock map sensor, if you want your boost cut to work properly.

any idea what the difference in the resolution would be between the different types? the sensor fits where the oem one goes, it looks identical but I know its not stock because when i fitted it to my car it stalled. I have no original packaging so i have no info on it.

you gotta have chiped ecu or ems to run bigger then stock map sensor thats why your car stalled

if your chip isnt setup for the 4 bar it wont run right.

it is like this. maps read from .1 to 5 volts. on a 2.5 bar (im rounding numbers up) you cut .1 to 5 volts 25 times. on the 4 bar, you cut the .1 to 5 volts 40 times.

with that said, 2.5 volts on the 2.5 bar is not the same pressure reading as 2.5 volts on the 4 bar.

i dont know the scaling off of the top of my head.

some good info on aftermarket map sensors and resolution. I learned a few things from omniman in this thread, its worthwhile checking out.

Been there done that.. My boost cut didn't work properly even though it was set when I was pushing the limits of a stock map. I ended up spiking to 16psi, the cut didnt catch it and my ringlands went.

FWIW, I get the exact same gas milage and drivability wether I use a stock MAP, 2.5bar, 3bar, or a 4bar. I've had them all on the same car.

Only thing that will change drivability is not fully tuning a GM 3bar. There are so many 3rd party producers of it (legal knockoffs), that they differ wildly. Vac and high boost is also not as linear with the GM. The motorola/freescale sensor is supposedly what's in the Hondata/Omni 4bar MAP's, which are very linear, and all the same.

I have tuned anything from a n/a car (for testing) to a 600+ whp car on the new Omnipower & Hondata 4 bar map sensors. Not one single issue with anything.

I wish every turbo customer came in with one on their car :-)
