i have 93 delsol d15b that i just put turbo on, turbo was brand new but crappy no named brand. it is a ball bearinged turbo that came with oil restrictor but i drilled it out and had 1/4 inch return line drove it 5 miles crazy blue smoke out tale pipe then i read and changed my return line to 5/8 and put new oil restricter.. and i still have alot of blue smoke coming out tail pipe..it still boosts. wondering if hooking it up wrong for 5 miles smoked my turbo.. or is it just what happens when you use no named after market crap ... it is a t3/t4 .. thanks for any help

If there is still oil in it, then it will smoke for a while. Did you clean up all the oil? If not i would do so, then drive it again and see what happens.

Why did you drill out the restrictor in the first place? It wouldnt be there unless it was needed. And yes, 1/4 inch return line is way to small.... shoulda read and knew what your were doing before doint anything. Chances are the turbo is in need of a rebuild. And if its a cheap turbo like you say its prob not worth being rebuilt

the only oil that leaked went right down the down tube(on the inside none on the exterior). how many miles do you think to burn it all off. or maybe half hour idling.. thanks for your imput i dont think i could get lucky enough for the turbo not to be smoked .

i appreciate all replies thank you

how long is the pipe. If you can take it off, clean it out. Otherwise, clean out the turbo where it connects to the exhaust, go out and do some driving. Come back let it cool, and check it again and see where you are. I had issues with my turbo, it was a journal though. Mine was fine.

is your motor tuned/basemap???? umm drilling the restrictor was a bad idea and you need atleast a 3/4in return line..........atleast that is what i would reccomend.

I could deffinately see you blowing your turbo seals because oil could have easily been like nearly compressing itself in the chamber and not haveing a way out really.

Dont blame it on the turbo though.

yeah motor definatly isnt tuned i was only running 7ibs boost so i didnt think it was that big of deal was running vortech fmu so i was hoping i wouldnt lean out. but 3/4 on out let wow thats big i though 5/8 was big guess not.

took the car out for half an hour hoping it was just oil left in the exhaust and after 15 min. it totally cleaned out didnt smoke nothing not at idle or at wot. then after like a half hour noticed it would smoke sometimes at idle but not as much at wot almost like it was loading up at idle.

thanks for all replies

Get that sucker tuned!! The worst thing u can do is go out boosting 7lbs and relying on a fmu to keep your motor safe

You're gonna need anger management classes after you blow your motor driving it un-tuned. Get rid of that FMU and get a chipped obd1 ecu with either Hondata/Neptune/eCtune or the likes, even an AEM ems and tow that b*tch to a tuner. Think 7lb or less of boost isn't a big deal without properly changing ignition timing and A/F ratios? The car and ecu were not design to run boost, the tables have to be corrected under a dyno to have the most performance and reliability.

True story do that, alot of people think 7 and 8 psi is safe to run untuned and its not really its not good to run untuned at all. I mean I ran a base map from phearable .net for almost 7 monthswith no problems beating it and all taking two hour rides out of state but it was only set for 3 psi. Im not telling you to do this I was just lucky but definitly get some rc injectors and a warlbro 255lph and hook up with any of what my man above me just said. lol

yeah just get an obd1 ecu chipped and have a base map in it so it is safe to drive around when you dont get on it.

go to a tuner and then have him tune it and beat on it anywhere you want. right now though you are setup for disaster I would get my car tuned if i was on 2lbs of boost, that is just how I am.
