Planning a Build...Not sure Which turbo to use
Looking to put together a B20vtec setup using 84mm 9.5:1 CP pistons, Eagle H-beam rods, and a CNCWERX Cylinder Support System, and a race-ported b16 head. Hoping for a goal of around 500whp. I'm having issued choosing a turbo though as I have people telling me to use a smaller turbo than what I have chosen out of a small group of turbos. Option 1 was a Precision 5931MFS. Option 2 was a Precision 5858. Option 3 was a Precision 5431, and Option 4 was a Turbonetics T3/T04e.
I'm not sure which one of these I should 100% settle for, because I'm aiming for a car that I can use a boost-by-gear setup for, and a 'street-driven' car that I can potentially get to run a mid-high 10sec quarter mile. Any opinions on my turbo selection?

What fuel are you running? Making 500whp on pump gas is a different animal than 500whp on race gas/e85
Also, a standard T3/T04e 60 trim (biggest of that line) won't make 500whp. If you crack 450whp with it, consider yourself lucky. You can cross that off the list...Same goes for the PTE 5431 - its too small also.
Whats your budget? There are several turbo options out there - GT30r, S256/259, Silver Surfer, etc

DOnt bother with an 84mm CSS block above 400hp, even after being braced with the CSS ring they still only warrant them to 400... THey dropped the warranty power of 500 down to 400 in only the case of the b20 block.

In that case, get a STC Hunter and go for broke. It'll make gobs of torque on an 84mm and will still reach into the mid 400s.

^That sounds like a plan. Any idea how the STC Hunter T04B compares to the Turbonetics T04E? I'm probably going to get the T04E, I have a friend who tuned his and made 503whp off of a B16 block and will be getting it for a good deal. Reading the bottom of the page it sounds like they are pretty much the same exact turbo.

The Hunter is a really nice turbo especially when you compare it to an older t series turbo with outdated aerodynamics. The Hunter only uses a T04B cover, not the compressor wheel. The Hunter has a forged compressor wheel with much better aerodynamics over the older t series turbos.

The T04b Hunter and a T04e are 57 trim are pretty similar. As Wantboost said, the difference comes down to the forged compressor wheel which is more efficient than the old cast wheels. It'll make similar power, but will have a broader powerband which you'll appreciate on the street.
I used to run a GT3255b (the precursor to the Hunter) and I loved that turbo on the street. I had full boost before 4k rpm and was into positive pressure after about 2500rpm. On a stock GSR it made 315/216 @10psi and had a lot left in it.
