Pentium II with SPEEDPRO?
Hey guys, I have a chance to jump on a good deal for a laptop with my speedpro. The laptop is not all that great, Compaq with Pentium II, i dont know what model yet. I was wondering if Pentium II is adequate enough to use for tuning my Speedpro. Can yall guys school me with what i need from a laptop to safely tune my car with, thanx in advance.
it will work just fine. I wouldn't invest too much money in a laptop.. just make sure it has a serial port on the back of it. the newer laptops don't only usb.. but either way you just need anything that runs dos. Which by the way I would recommend. It is much easier to navagate than the windows version. I have the dos version if you would like to try it.
Typically about 100mhz is good for tuning, but something about 300mhz is preferred for datalogging.

Craig Smith said they're trying to design the new oneto be very competitive with new DFI 7.0 and AEM units.

I got the newer version F.A.S.T. window's based. So i would need atleast 300mhz to make my datalogging run correctly?
EDIT: i just went to their website and it said... Both systems are easily programmable with F.A.S.T.'s user friendly C-Com™ software and your PC-based computer (386 and higher processor)
The 386 processor, is that the same as the MHZ? Sorry for asking dumb questions, like i said i dont really know anything about computers, i just use it to go online.
Here is the computer im getting... http://www.westworldcomputers.com/co...da%207400.html

386 is pretty old. A Pentium 2 should do what you need. Personally I would want a Pentium 3. I am thinking with a slower processor your real time data logging *could* be laggy.
if you are wondering...a 386 is just a older architecture.
386 = old as *****
486 = pentium/pentium mmx
586 = p2-p3
686 = p3-p4
I'm not sure if those are right but in unix thats how they detect my chips... Also a 386 anything is VERY old..for example i'm 21 and i don't even remember 386's (1981 is the first year pc's were made). A p2-p3 will definately been good enough..also if it isn't just upgrade the RAM.
