You can pick up like a pent 3 laptop with a serial port for <500 on ebay. You will need at least 128mb of mem id say to run smooth, a serial port, and some decent speed.

you can use a p2 with windows 98 from a pawn shop for like 150 200 that will work just fine you dont need a cream puff if all you wanna do is tune with it.

I have an old 486 that i still use to tune with. You don't need a fancy laptop although a better one will definitely be quicker.

i'd recommend something that can at least run Windows XP.. reason being its the fastest booting OS and i hate having to wait for the laptop to boot up when i want to change something.. i'd stay above the 350mhz range.. but i'm a systems administrator at work, so i like fast things

thanks for all the input guys... like i said, this is primarily for tuning... other uses though would be internet, mp3, and maybe dvd... so i am still leaning to at least a p2... anyways, its good to see that if all else fails, i can use a 486 or p1 for tuning... thanks again and if you have any more comment, keep em coming...

P1 150 mhz Toshiba here, no complaints. I don't see the need for a $100+ laptop unless you want to do some wireless network snooping so you can on-the-go download porno, surf the web, watch DVD/VCD/DiVX, and play games. If you just want a tuning tool, the cheap crap works great.

I have tried to use my laptop for tuning. Its a 133MHZ running Win 98.
The problem is that she only has 16megs of RAM and its a slow *** dog doing ANYTHING. It can barely do more than text.

if you want to do all of that and have it perform decently, then i'd say a PIII at least at 500-600mhz. also 256mb of ram would be nice if you're running XP. tuning requires minimal specs, but all that multimedia stuff you mentioned changes the game a little.
