Default overheat, radiator cap???

just put a t3/t4 on my CRX. Using a VW radiator my ? is that I can drive it around for a while and the temp will stay about 1/4 or a little higher, then after about 10-15 min of driving it creeps up. I am using a filler neck with a mustang radiator cap that says 13lbs which I guess is around .8 or .9 bar. Stock honda is 1.1 so I'm thinking that may be the problem. I'm only running .45bar of boost, no coolant loss and running a fan all the time.

HELP I have to drive 451 miles in 2 weeks!!!!!

how big is the VW radiator. Like full sized or half sized? And thin, med or thick.
You're probably making more HP and therefore more heat. Might need to adopt a bigger/better radiator

well I have the spoon radiator cap and it started over heating on me. I put the stock cap back on and it didn't do it anymore. I've heard the spring goes bad in the cap causing this to happen. I had the cap on there for about 2 years before it went bad on me......

other than keep the pressure in...how would a radiator cap keep temps down?

yeah, the cap isn't the problem if the temp gauge says the water's too hot. Are you sure there's no air bubbles in the system. Burp the whole thing to make sure. and what % water/coolant.

Just some things to consider

Be sure to check the resevoir for black particles to make sure your head gasket isn't leaking from either being blown or the head lifting under boost. I definitely agree to try to burp the system first to get all the air out. Another option is to get a bigger radiator. I personally run a Fluidyne with the stock fan and have had not a single problem with overheating since I put it on. There are definitely several different things that could cause overheating.

I think I figured it out, I had my fan blowing on the motor which blew hot air on the radiator, I reversed it and sucked air through it and it seems to be working, still gonna burp the system too.

take off radiator cap while engine is still cold.
start engine
let it idle until the fan comes on
if you have air bubbles in the system, you should see the coolant bubble up a bit and the level go down...

refill coolant if necessary

so if there is air in there the coolant will bubble up?
when the bubbles stop, that means the air is out?

Way to go, 3 year old thread

The fan pushes the other way with the air going towards the motor.

Perhaps you are overheating because your fans are going the wrong way Reverse it because fans need to be blowing toward the engine.

Pressure raises boiling points, so if the cap is not keeping pressure the boiling point can be coming down causing the car to run hot.
