The fan is the standard honda fan. Also i have the full width radiator not the half size one like most USDM cars seem to have because i have the ukdm vtec. The car does only over heat on boost, in traffic its fine and driving off boost all the time its ok but as soon as you boost the temp goes straight to the top of the gauge.
Im starting to think that the head is lifting but i didnt think that was common on B16's.
There is a little bit of oil mist coming out of the breather filter, not much but you can se it if you rev it. So im a bit worried about my ring lands too. It does not smoke out the exhaust tho. The problem is that if i do a compression check and it show one is down to the rest is that because of the head gasket or a broken ring land? Looks like im going to have to have the pistons out at the same time just to be sure.

Thanks for the help guy but please keep the suggestions coming!

retorqueing the bolts isn't gonna do anything. Once you got a leak at the headgasket its not gonna reseal.

Had the same problem until monday, 2 weeks ago when driving noticed the temp was up, check fan, switch, etc. found nothing so I changed the thermo. Was fine until monday, of course the weather has been shitty so I havent been boosting that much. Went to pass a car on the autobahn at full boost (10psi) temp spiked, slowed and went to the shoulder to let it run and cool but something sounded funny. Turned it off, over flow full of course. Went to restart blowing steam out the exhaust. Head Gasket, time for some studs.

Yeah thats whats happening to me but its not filling he over flow tank or smoking. I think it lifts on boost and then seals enough to hold the water back when not in boost. if thats possible

I have overheating problems in boost back in the day and a full sized radiator fixed my problems. But since you already have that - the headgasket does sound fishy.
