Over heating on boost.... Plus Smoking breather filter (only slightly)
Car has been fine but has started overheating when i boost. Its holding water, ive changed the rad cap and the thermastat but no change. Im thinking its the water pump.
When driving normally its fine but if i boost the temp goes straight up. If i drive normally off boost for a while it come back down but if i boost it goes straight back up.
Ive got no bubbles coming up in the water and its holding its water fine. There is no water in the oil either, so im 99.99% sure its not the head gasket. Im going to change the water pump tomorrow i think but is there any thing else it could be?

Sorry i should have put its a B16a1 and running 7-8psi of boost. The over flow tank is fine, it stays within the lines and never fills up more than the max mark on the side. Also the radiater is in good condition and was only replaced 1year - 18 months ago.

Its on the back of the radiator. There is no water in the oil or oil in the water, It way working fine until the other day.
Im pretty sure its not the head gasket because its not long since it was done and there are none of the usual problems.

Well, I think mine is stuck, but I think it's stuck open. My car takes forever to warm up, and when I drive at nite (60mph) with the heat on the temp drops all the way down. .

Sounds like that may be the problem. They are easy to change, mine cost £15 ($28) i expect you guy can get them for a lot less than that over there. It took 15 mins including taking charge pipe off refitting ect.

Ive had the pump out today and its fine. When i filled the water up it did seem to be bubbling a little so im thinking it may now be the head gasket. Could it be a split liner? The car runs fine apart from it getting hot.

Yep the fan is fine. If i drive off boost the temperature stays normal but as soon as i boost it overheats.
People have said about the head lifting, could it be doing this?

Just noticed that there is a little bit of oil mist around the breather filter when you rev it. Not much but a little.

i'm still thinking its the headgasket. Did the overflow just recently fill up to the top line? Thats what mine did this last time. It was always just above the min line and then all of a sudden one day i looked and it was just above the max. I beat on the car hard for a week and then finally it started overheating...the overflow never even overflowed.

so your car never overheats when its out of boost??
Do you have a slim line fan? I'm asking because you might have not wired it in right...

Do compression and leak down test
Pressure test coolant system
Where is your dumptube exiting we had one that happened to be close to the radiator and casued overheating
Remember if the coolant system doesnt hold pressure the coolant boils = temp rapidly raising
