Default Is it ok to drive around with a ice cold frozen intercooler?

I'm buying a WRX and I love the fact that it has a flat, top mount intercooler. I was thinking about how interesting it would be to put a big block of ice on the IC while you're driving around at a AutoX event. Some guy at a road course event a few months ago had a WRX with a completely frozen IC. He said it's fine to drive your car on the street like that. Is it true?

Hehe cool. When I get the WRX, I'll have a flat block of dry ice on the IC everytime I race it. How about spraying CO2 on the Intercooler and piping? I'm just worried that ice might cause some rusting issues if you do it too often.

Spraying CO2 and NOS have been around for years. It's worked then and it will continue to work. NX Express sells a kit and so does Spearco I think.

Well, depends. Intercoolers are meant to have air flow through them as a means of cooling. If you just plop a slab of dry ice on top of it, it may obly cool the first set of rows on the intercooler and not "soak" all the way through to the bottom side of it.
I, for one, dont think it would be as efficient as it sounds.
Maybe inbetween runs, ice it down--but that would only help for when your going down the 1/4 mile. With autoxing it wouldnt make a difference since your on the car way harder and longer for more than a measly 15 seconds.
