Oil use on long trips?
Recently on two 6-700 mile round trips, my car has used about a quart of oil. Does anyone else have this issue? btw, I checked my plugs and they're clean and the car doesn't smoke. It only does it when I go on trips as daily driving has shown no oil use. thx

motors are designed to use oil, that is pretty much right in the "box" for oil usage, if my motor didnt use any oil i would think something was wrong, especially on a turbo car, the ring tolerances are different for heat expansion so yes oil consumtion is normal, i used about a quart on a 1200 mile trip

What the.......? How about NO?!?!? If your car uses up a quart every 1200 miles there's something wrong man. Shot seals, rings...etc. You might wanna check your car.
To the OP, how many miles are on your engine? Done a compression check lately? Maybe even a leakdown? Any smoke coming out of your tail pipe?

I agree that using a quart every 1200 is less than ideal. However, I wouldn't say that something is wrong. Like already said, turbo cars have higher cylinder pressure than NA cars for a given amount of displacement. That means you're gonna have more blow-by gasses so oil consumption is inevitable. It also depends on piston material and ring gap if you have a built motor.
Bottom line is as long as oil consumption isn't out of control and your ring lands are holding up, you don't have anything to worry about.

to me 1200 miles is about 2 weeks of driving. If I had to dump a quart of oil in every 2 weeks I'd be ripping my engine appart (well, mybe not that far) but I sure as hell would be doing a compression test.

Re: (JAY)
I have a tiny leak I found on my outlet flange from my turbo. I also have a breather on my valve cover (catch can soon) and I cleaned around that area before the trip and after I returned there was oil in the same area. My PCV isn't clogged either. My oil return might not be gravity returning as well as I think it is either. Thanks for the replies though. I think it's a combination of a few things.
