Which oil to use?
I was just wondering what kind of oil people use for their turbo'd cars. Right now i'm using synthetic 10-30. I was thinking about using 20-50....any opinions or suggestions? Thanks
One of the tuner mags did an article on oil's viscosites awhile back. Would have been excellent reading for you. I found it:
turbo & HIGH TECH PERFORMANCE...SEP 2004 issue.
The higher the viscosity, the more friction there will be.

but the lower the viscosity, the less protection there will be. oil film thickness is the only protection against metal to metal contact.
here are some key points to remember when choosing a motor oil:
a 30wt. oil is only a 30wt. at 100C. as the tempature of motor oil increases, the viscosity of motor oil decreases. for every increase in temperature of 20C , an oil drops approx. one sae viscosity grade. so a 30wt. motor oil at 140C is actually a 10wt.
i suggest you use a 15w-40 conventional oil such as chevron delo or mobil delvac. and you can use any 20w-50 if you want.

If you have a VTEC engine I wouldn't run anything too thick b/c I have heard a few stories of people using 20w50 and the VTEC pin in the solenoid snapped. I would be careful...

i wonder if german civics have this problem??? look, you cannot use 5w-30 in a b16a unless the temperature falls below zero. ive come to the conclusion that in america honda wants you to use 5w-30 and currently 5w-20. but all over the world, honda allows multiple viscosities at varying temperatures.
