Default Oil Return placement

my instructions that came with my revhard kit aren't that great.

where do i place the oil drain line, does it have to be in a exact place or just somewhere on the front of the oil pan near the top?

It's best to do a check fit with everything in place: oil pan, turbo, downpipe, etc. For example on my 2nd gen teg the driver side of the pan didn't work out because of the proximity of the downpipe and front crossmember. Or I should say when I used a rubber hose it worked but when I went to SS braided I couldn't get a tight enough radius. The rubber hose is a little more forgiving that way I think.

PS I know it's a PITA to put everything in for a check fit and then take it out again but believe me you only want to do it once. Don't ask how I know.

I don't know anything about your background, but if you've never done this before I wouldn't plan on having everything working correctly within a day. Not saying you can don't it, but having a need for the car so quickly probably isn't a good idea.

He is correct. Test fitting is a must for the return line. When you rush, you make mistakes, so put aside 2 days for downtime. You want the return line to be straight down so there is no restriction with the oil flow, this is why it is advised to do a test fit.

Im a believer that it doesnt matter (as long as it clears everything internally). Mine is on the back and according to everyone here its too low.

Works great and the bulkhead is a good 12" below the turbo so its not an issue.

You have to remember, oil will not flow efficiently uphill! If the line goes down then up at any point it's not right. You will have many turbo seal problems. This single issue is the reason for at least a good 60% of turbo failures. I see it all the time. Hot oil backs up in the return line and causes hot oil to sit in the turbo, not a good situation. I would recommend you change yours if it's like this.

Here is how mine looks:

And where the fitting is:

It took me quite a few test fittings to get it lined up right. I hope you are planning the install for more than one night! I planned for 3 days and it took me 9, so many things will pop up that you have not planned for
