Default OIL RETURN NOT DRAINING????

*****EDIT****
I relocated the drain line directly under the turbo so that it was a straight shot, and I also rebuilt the turbo and the smoking still continued. So.......I figured out that its what my turbo still because I had oil in my downpipe. So I ordered a new turbonetics turbo housing for $85 and the smoking went away. No smoke at all. So if your having the same problem then check your turbo. The grove on my center housing where the piston ring on the shaft sits in was worn badly and cause leakage.

Ok I just installed my turbo kit on my fully built GSR motor. My motor doesn't smoke at until 2 mins of running then blue smoke fills the air. My Turbonetics turbo has no shaft play, I'm using a -3an line with no resistor and also have a -10an retun line. Because my down pipe is in the way of running the line straight down to pan I had to run my return line more towards right side of the pan.

I un-bolted the return line from the oil pan to see if there was oil backed up and just barely any oil came out.

I also pulled the downpipe off and there was oil all in the downpipe and hotside of turbo. I'm thinking the turbo has blown seals???

Does my return line look like its not draining properly and causing it to smoke?

Where else could I place the return line so that it flows properly?

The return line looks decent but I'd re-route it. Like you already stated, check the turbo seals as well. Also, and this would kind of suck but having the turbo on the other side would make the oil return better.

I took the turbo off. I called my local Turbo rebuilding shop. He said it could be the piston ring on the shaft and the seals. So i went ahead and bought a rebuild kit with everything. So I'll do that tonight and see what happens.

thanks for all the input.. I will have updates soon

Hopefully it's an easy fix. I love easy fixes. Too bad they are few and far between.

Hey everyone. Just an update. I rebuilt the turbo today. When I opened it I noticed the exhaust side bearing was burnt up and the compressor seal was broken and also the exhaust piston ring was burnt up. So I let all the parts soak in boiling water for about 1 hr with degreaser before assembly. There is no shaft play at all I'm very happy with the way it turned out. It turned out very clean and spins way better than before.

I will be turning on the motor tomorrow to see if the smoke goes away.

Thanks for all the help I'll let everyone know how it goes.

Ok well. I started the car this morning with the rebuilt turbo. Its not smoking anymore after 2 min of being started like it used too. I see a little smoke here and there but I think its because I need a resistor. So i'll be installing a .065 resistor soon and let you guys know.

But overall. There are no oil leaks. No heavy blue smoke. And no oil in downpipe. It turned out to be the seals on the turbo and I'm happy it was an easy fix. I paid $80 for my rebuild kit with a new collar, shaft bearings, 360 thrust plate and all seals and bolts.
I'm happy with the overall ending.

are you using a catch can? if u still have the PCV system hooked up it might suck up a little oil now and again.

Nope not hooked up. In the process of doing the vented valvecover mod with 2 10an braided lines to a endyn catch can.

I'm going to check the Oil PSI at the turbo with a .065 restrictor to see if its safe with my -3an.

I just replaced my center housing on my turbo and the smoke went away. I had worn center housing where the piston ring shaft sits.
