i've never ever had to use one personally, neither has any guy that works at our shop and just about every "rebuild" that comes that was starved of oil has a "restrictor on it".... go figure.
the problem i see with these, is that it reduces the volume of oil as well as pressure.
are you having problems with your -3 feed line and -10 drain?

the one i got form atp was thin brass that broke so just got done doing the an fitting wiht the nos pill. i took a 42 pill and drilled it out to 1.59mm. i did this because the car smoked a little at idle
