Default Oil light problem

For some reason my oil light came on last night after driving around...i checked the oil level today and its fine (actually a tab over the top mark) but i'm still getting a solid oil check light. I tried looking through past threads and the possible causes are: 1) low oil level 2) clogged oil pickup 3)bad oil pump...... any more?

number one is out because the level is fine, two i'm doubting because i recently installed a new oil pan during the install not even 1k miles ago. So is it a bad oil pump??? I don't have an oil pressure guage but i'll try to get one to see if i'm getting any pressure at all. PLS help

you could bought a oil pressure gauge tool... its is made to screw it in the T ( that you probably have ) at the back of your engine... were you get the oil for your turbo oil line...

this way you wont have to install a new gauge...

Ok i'm 99% sure it's the oil pump now......i took off the oil feed from the "T", cranked it over for a few seconds, and there was no oil coming out of the hole at all . What would cause the oil pump to go bad???? The car is a 2001 and only has about 51K on it, less than 1k boosted miles...........

Wow I hope you didnt drive around like that for too long.

It could be a clog. Or the oil pick up could be too close to the oil pan like on American Hotrod.

yeah, i'm hoping that's the case LOL. I'd rather unclog the pickup or bang out the oil pan than having to replace the oil pump

sounds like you trashed a pump

Better take it off whil the motor is still (probably) good!

i'm hoping it still is....luckily the oil light came on right as i pulled in the drive way so i just shut it off right then. Anyone have a good oilpump, timing belt, waterpump and tensioner laying around? I might as well do those too while i'm at it

UPDATE: Ok she runs fine now and the the oil system is okay (crosses fingers). the problem wasn't really a bad oil pump. A piece of metal (probably a shaving from taping the oil pan and not cleaning the pan well enough after) got lodged in the bypass valve in the oil pump and held it wide open .

EDIT: big thanks to flamenco-t for hooking my up with the extra lines and tee for the oil pressure guage and Autobahn Tuning Solutions in Norwalk for doing the work
