OEM ignitor and coil -OR- OEM ignitor and MSD coil - Which lasts longer?
The setup: ANY stock Honda - no mods what-so-ever.
If a stock ignition system can go 200k miles (with the only maintenance being cap/rotor/wires/plugs), would you expect this same life span if a MSD coil were used - all else remaining the same? Would you expect the same service intervals for maintenance items?
I ask because I'm wondering if there is any correalation between early OEM ignitor death with the use of a MSD coil.

3 years? Are you using the MSd box or just using the coil? I thought if you're just using a msd coil without the box it burns out the ignitor within weeks or days.

theres definately something going on, and neither MSD nor most of the ppl on this board know what it is. I can tell you i have seen some cars eat up ignitors, while other cars last 6-10 mos.
I hate distributors and after the headaches ive had over the past few weeks, coil on plug seems like the future. hopefully someone can figure out how to do a COP setup with the stock honda ecu!!!!!!!

Re: OEM ignitor and coil -OR- OEM ignitor and MSD coil - Which lasts longer? (Full-Race Geoff)
original setup MSD 6a, blaster SS, OEM ignitor, MSD 6a lasted 15 days, i got it warrentied but never re-installed. then for 4 months blaster SS & OEM coil, worked great. Ignitor is taking a **** on me now, attempting to either go ignitorless with the little circuit that John @ J&S came up with or maybe just buy the MSD distributor....
yet per this thread: https://honda-tech.com/zerothread?id=1194624
i'm now confused if MSD distributor will work still with OEM ecu

This has already been figured out and is relatively simple.

It is a simple board and does indeed work with the stock ECU.

Very interesting, I can't wait to see how that turns out
