Default not a honda....but I am still hoping you have an answer!

hey my friend is curious to know if he would be better off getting the Impreza RS rather than the WRX and just installing a turbo on the RS. Would there be any downfall to this? Would he have to do anything internally to the engine to accomadate the turbo? Would he actually save that much money? Any comments are appreciated.

I don't know any real specifics on this, but I was thinking the same thing before we got the WRX stateside and looked into it briefly - without any actual REASONS I remember that the Scooby guys said it was really difficult to boost a non-turbo subaru; internals aren't strong enough, engine management a pain in the *** - most people who tried back then ended up importing engines. I know that NOW there are a lot more guys running boosted scoobies that were originally NA, so maybe they've made some advances, but I'd sure just buy the WRX to start with - it's not like they're that expensive!

For TONS OF INFORMATION on this go to http://www.iclub.com - they have an entire forum for aftermarket turbocharging subarus.

as it is with any na car that you turbo you are going to spend alot of money on a stand alone fuel managment system(10,000 haha) and tuning. definertly going to be more worth while to get the wrx, or do a engine swap into the rs..that is another alternative..

Contact Evolution Racing Sports (evorace1@aol.com) for any WRX questions. The owners name is Chad and his is pretty quick. It runs 7.66 1/8th mile times and got dynoed today at 389 hp, 313 tq. Thats 520 hp at the crank with 25% drivetrain loss on those cars. Believe me, he knows his WRX ****.

id go with the WRX, alittle more $, but think of the upgrades you can do in the future, sometimes more $ more = less headaches in the end .. maybe hold off and wait for the STi to come over ... just a thought ...

Not only those points but the main point i think should be the fuel management. The rs isnt made to read boost.

ALL current Subarus are AWD. The WRX has limited slip center and rear diffs (viscous) and an open front diff. LOTS of traction. I've driven my best friends WRX a number of times, very fun car, but quite difficult to launch well. A small number of people have hit high 1.7's 60 ft. times on STOCK wheels and tires (Bridgestone RE-92's) with other mods done to the car. Lots of people hit 1.8 60's on the stock tires. The motor is fairly sturdy in stock form and has 8:1 compression. A number of people on i-club are well into the 300 WHEEL HP range on stock internals thus far. However the WRX tranny is NOT its strong point, they do seem to be a bit fragile. You need to treat it carefully when your playing the AWD game...

Can't wait to see what the STI brings.....
