Default Not flowing enough air!!

Well i got tuned last night, and while the results were so-so, the car didnt reach my full potential.

We tuned for 16psi then when we tried to step up to 18psi we couldnt make it. the car wouldnt boost more than 16psi. i think that the POS Drag Manifold and 2.5 (or even 2.25?) downpipe are finally starting to bottle neck the set up. the exhaust is a 3" with a 3" test pipe. We tried to raise the duty on the AVCR to no avail. it seems that the turbo cant get enough air, fast enough through the shitty exhaust set up to make more boost.

also, at WOT Shifts from say 2nd ---> 3rd the car falls on its face for a split second as i believe to much exhaust gas has built up to fast in the manifold/downpipe that when i open the throttle back up for third gear it has to first fight through the bottlenecked air stuck in the system so to speak. after a split second the car fights through and builds boost smoothly all the way to redline.

i know i have an easy 40 more WHP in the exhaust manifold when i switch to a ramhorn with a 3" DP, as ill be able to run 18lbs.

anyone have any thoughts on my prediciment or could attest to the fact that the car is indeed having flow problems. i know if you've seen the DRAG mani you'll understand :sigh:

set up,

b16, eagle rods, 9:1 wiseco, GSR cams, 780cc precision injectors, T3/T04e (.63ar, 54) 3" thermal, 255hp pump tuned on crome by a very respected tuner with the AFs and intake air temps all in check.

Mr.Vapor! ah yes now i can comment on your setup too dince i am turbo now!

Are you running the same drag kit as me? THe manifold BLOWZZZ thats your first big issue. Also the downpipe is ****. do you have the 2.5" downpipe with the 2" reducer in the end of it?

I know my drag kit came with some weak *** 2.5" downpipe with a 2" reducer in the end. First thing im doing when i go home this weekend is taking that thing to the muffler shop to get that reducer removed and a standard 2.5" flat flange welded in its place.

I would say definitely some flow issues

yea the manifold sucks, i always knew it did but now i guess its time to pony up for an equal length.

i dont have a reducer on my DP, i had a muffler shop put an enlarger on, so it goes 2.5 DP ---> 3" test pipe ---> 3" thermal

but the DP is KILLING me. grrrrr

I agree that your downpipe is a bottleneck. If you're running a 3" testpipe/exhaust combo, consider investing in a 3" downpipe also.

You're running 35mm on 16+psi? 38mm isnt much of an upgrade. LoveFab has a mani with a 44mm WG and 3"DP combo.

I'm getting the same set-up, but for an S2000. I only plan to run 10-14 psi.

Sounds like a nice s2k. Definetly go with the equal length mani. Youll notice a whole lot more.
