Re: boost spikes (vtecsiqt)
well to regulate boost ...the wastegate vents out the extra air when it hits the set boost level. a boost spike is when the air thats supposed to go out the wastegate, goes out the exhaust instead. this usually happens if you have no back pressure like a 3" cat and a 3" exhaust & a big down pipe (on the drag manifold at least, because of the position of the wastegate) because the exhaust wants to FLOW out the exhaust, and not out the wastegate.....
edit/ add: the air that escapes through the exhaust is the boost spike .....because the turbo is driven from the exhaust, if you get extra exhaust that wasnt supposed to be there.....thats more boost...... hence, boost spike.
the drag manifold has a poor design in the fact that the wastegate is only over one of the runners........unlike the inline pro which is directly over all four runners, which would make it very hard to have a boost spike.

Re: boost spikes (vtecsiqt)
Say you're running a 9psi. wastegate. You floor it and it hits 13psi. then drops back down to 9psi. where it is suppose to be. That is boost spike. It spikes up to a higher boost level then falls back down to where it is set. This is the way I have understood it to be.

Re: boost spikes (dlplayboy)
a boost spike is boost that spikes.

he wanted an explanation on what is it...not just saying "the boost raises up and then goes down"
