The answer to that question depends on many many factors but the number I most often hear here on H-T is about 6psi. The BIG question is...why would you boost a car without intercooling it??? They're relatively cheap, not too hard to install, and add lots of power and reliability. Why wouldn't someone do it?!?!

but seriously i guess it depends on the motor, and the tune, good tune and a strong motor probobally a decent amount i wouldnt personally go over like 5psi tho
much smarter to stay on the safe side tho, u can get a dsm sidemount IC for cheap, as a matter of fact i happen to be selling one so if ur interested let me know

this may sound silly, but i'm looking to keep my oem fog lights, and all the front mount intercoolers I have seen require you to take them off for the piping. Would I be able to with the side mount? I also want to keep a bit of a sleeper look, which is hard to do with a big *** intercooler up front.

To be honest, intercooler > foglights for so many reason; most importantly, air temp.
Edit: there are numerous people who have got large intercoolers with foglights. Just takes some creative fabbing. Alsp, to answer your question, I would not go over 5 psi depending on tuning and your turbo.

I just installed a Greddy type 24 on my 99 Hatch and I have OEM fogs. No problems just had to modify the fog light housing a little.
Also, before a installed the intercooler I was running between 6-8 psi without any problems..

my first setup was a non-IC t25 on my d16. it was fine at 7psi and I am still running the same motor now at 11-13psi with an IC and bigger turbo 22,000miles later.

hmm fog lights over an intercooler? i dunno bout that one. but for real iv seen alota people keep there foglights and run an intercooler. i mean thats exhaust gasses coming from your motor going straight back into your motor without any cooling. dat ***** gonna be pretty hot.

it all depends on the effeciency of the turbo also. the first gen grand nationals werent intercooled. even the very first turbo trans am's and the turbo regals werent either. they were carbuerated draw through, but thats another issue. the 84-5 Gn's ran well non intercooled. i want to say they were 12 Psi? i cant remember. but for the technology out now, and the prices, it really makes no sense to not intercool your car. http://www.gnttype.org/techare....html has a recipe with added fuel for an 85 gn, they are running 20 psi non intercooled.

IMO, not something I would recommend. Yeah, it would be as cooled or chilled air, but it would heat up really fast, right?

. There never really is a true answer. It really comes down to: At what point will you start to detonate at. This is because the hotter air makes it easier to detonate in. Along with leaner combustions/too little timing/etc/etc...
If you run really really rich in boost and then hella timing, low compression, anything...then the higher boost you can run, yet that will make less power. It's all a give and take

I ran 5psi with a SOHC turbo kit non intercooled for a month. Then put a nice FMIC on it. made a night and day differnce. Nonintercooled turbos get heat soaked very easy. If you go non intercooled, order the FMIC asap.

What you can do to run a FMIC and keep your fog lights is to flip the intercooler upside down so that the inlet and outlet are higher than the side ducts in the bumper where the fogs mounts.
That should solve your problem right there.

i know a kid that has a really conservative tune on a 5.0 mustang thats running almost 800 whp and is at 26 -28 psi on a vortech custom blower setup, none intercooled or after cooled, he supposedly goes to a very good tunner though, i would say that you can run none intercooled pretty high boost to a limit , but it comes to how good the tune is and how well the internals can take all the heat.

I guess the point is if you're were thinking about ditching your intercooler idea just to keep your fogs...don't. There's an easy way around it.
If you want to experiment with pumping hot air into your motor, more power to you!!! Hope you don't live in Phoenix.

Thanks for all the help guys, it looks like when I go turbo i'm either going to use a tiny front mount, or a side mount intercooler. I'm gald it is possible to keep the foggies though, I like the way they look and my bumper is chopped up so I would have to get a new bumper if I took em out.

i have a 2000 civic, and i have the oem foglights aswell, i didnt want to lose them because my bumper would have huge holes in it from where they used to be, so i got a side mount intercooler off an old probe, and mounted it where my A/C radiator thing used to be, works perfect, and im running 8-9psi...
