what wiring info do you have?? if I can remember, everything should match up except the one white wire on the OD0 harness that is seperate from everything else...that one will match with the yellow/green wire on the OBD1 (dizzy side) I'd go double check myself, but its snowing out side right now

thanks for the info.

another question, will this http://www.jdr.com/interact/item.asp?itemno=PLCC28 work as a socket or not? basically, what is the difference between dip and plcc? the reason i ask is because i dont plan on switching chips often and i dont think i need a zif socket. thanks.

*edit*
nevermind. google is my friend. me. i found what i was looking for here

*update*
will the sockets found here work instead of the zif socket? also, what are the differences between the '28 pin st' and the '28stsk'? thanks.

for the 29C256 chip I'd DEFINENTLY use a ZIF socket, it makes removing the chips 100 times easier cause it just pops right out with the flip of the lever

as for the 74HC, in my ECU the 74HC IC was soldered directly to the board(no socket was used)...nor does it need one. but if you want to mount it on a socket, the one from that link most people use the "solder tail" style so that would be the 28stsk model on that page...

edit: now that I read it it seems the other model might have larger contacts, so either should work I guess

I've got plenty pics if you need any

i've actually got an ic puller so that isnt too much of a concern for me, especially since i dont plan on pulling the chip very often. so for my purposes, can i save the $8 and just use the other sockets or is there a problem with the 27c256 chip not fitting? thanks for all your help.

the 27cs are fine, but need a UV eraser to be erased and re-written. most just perfer the 29Cs because they are "overwritable" and don't need a UV eraser...just pop in the burner and re-write

They should be the same size/shape. I have both 27c256 and 29c256 and have used both in the same ZIF.

I think what id10t is really asking is whether or not the 27c256/29c256 will fit in the 28pinst or 28stsk socket. I don't know for sure, but I would guess that it does.

cripes just get two or more 29c256's and a ZIF socket and be done with it. 27/29 are both 28pin DIP's.

Wouldn't negative numbers on an ignition map mean after top dead center? What would a '0' be on the ignition map, the stock 16 degrees advance, or 0 degrees advance? Thanks.

can someone confirm some info for me?

i was wondering if the chips found here will work with uberdata and a socketed ecu.

now i know that most everyone here recommends 29c256, but i plan on using about 5-10 of these with the same tune except with different launch control settings for different track conditions and tire setups and i dont wanna lug around my computer/burner/etc to the track to reburn a chip. lemme know, thanks in advance.

here's a pic

The difference is that those have to be erased by a UV light (blacklights will not work) before they are re-written.

There are reasons why people suggest the 29c256. basically that chip is not reburnable. you must erase it with a UV light and then burn the program back on there. Basically its a pain in the ***. If you dont mind getting a UV eraser or rigging up some sort of UV light it will work. But i bet you can use 10-15 of those chips just getting a decent tune.

That's an OTP SMT chip, worethless.

OTP = burn once and throw away

SMT = surface mount, won't plug into a socket.
