Default New to turbo, couple of basic questions.

Hey people.
Like I said in the description, I’m new to turbos. I have a ’95 SOHC VTEC, it is my daily driver. I don’t race with it, I just drive it. I’d like to get at least 250whp. If I used the Drag Gen 3 kit, what else would need to be done to the engine? I realize tuning is of utmost importance, but there isn’t anywhere close that I can take my car for the required tuning.
I have done a number of searches, and I can’t seem to find what I’m looking for. If I’m asking a question that’s already been asked, then I’m sorry. But, thanks in advance for any help.

i have a d16y8 and the kit i have which is from f-max, a t3/t4 hybrid, at 12 psi produced 220hp, on stock internals and all. there is a guy boosteded he got 300whp and like 250 torque from 16 psi on stock bottom end, ran at the track then boosted it up to like 18 (if i recall properly) and blew the engine. if you want 250whp on a daily driven car you would have to build the bottom end, you could probably most likely get away with 250whp on race day or on special occasions with higher octane gas and good tuning.
but i would suggest putting new rods, since those seem to be the weekest link in the sohc's. and since your already there i would put better pistons, sleeve it possible, or whatever else. anyways im not too knowledgable on the bottom end stuff since i havent attempted that yet on my car.
good luck!

Put some eagle rods and JE pistons in the bottom end. With the DRAG kit then you can turn up the boost to get that horsepower, or more. I'd get either a Hondata or AEM EMS to tune the fuel.

I havent heard of too many ppl running 250+ hp setups on sohc daily with no modifications to their engines.

tuning is good but things like forged internals and sleeving would be ideal of a daily driver. esp if you get a bad tank of gas.

for a stock bottom end motor ... over 100k which im assuming u are at i would do a complete overhaul before building a 250hp daily driver...

ps do a compression/leakdown test b4 boosting.. it will save you a lot of headaches...

Well, to put in new pistons, you would have to rebuild the motor. Make sure you don't order the pistons until you take the motor apart, unless you know you want to bore it like .030 over. You will need pistons before the machine work can be done, whether boring or just honing. Depending on the crank, or may want it reground....maybe about .010. Heck...with all that, get a turbo cam while your at it and rebuild the head.

Invest in a build up.

Wow, Thanks guys for all the info. I had planned on building the bottom end anyways. I just wanted to see people with the "expertise" ideas. Thanks again. By the way, if anyone has any more suggestions, please feel free to write.
