New to boost, need help with an overheating issue
I recently boosted my car (setup below) and it's running pretty good for being partially finished. Most of the time it runs below the middle of the temp gauge but every now and then it will creep up twords the redline. This is not after any hard boosting or anything. It seems to be the opposite actually. I drove home tonight on the highway just fine, dropped Joel off, pulled in my driveway and let it idle and after a little bit I looked up and the temp was up twords the red line. I waited about a half hour or so and went back outside to see if the radiator was full and it was and there is not coolant overflowing into the overflow tank or anything. Do I need a new radiator possibly???

Mine did this too, and I couldn't figure out ******* why.
Make sure you have coolant in the system. And start the motor near cold without the radiator cap on and let it idle for 15-20 minutes to bleed all the air out of the system.

bleed the air, top off your coolant, make sure fan is working, and if that doesnt fix it then change thermostat ($8)

I think my fan works but takes a REALLY REALLY long time to come on, how can I wire up a switch to turn it on when I want (goes immediatly to the search after clicking "post")

Yeah it wont, but it would be nice to have one running when I want. My understanding is that if I tap each wire of the coolant temp sensor into a switch, flipping that switch should ground the circuit and make the fan turn on, correct?

Do what I did....ditch the damn stock radiator. The KOYO unit I have works flawlessly. Plus, considering the fact that I have iron-sleeves, the coolant temperature gets hotter compared to OEM aluminum sleeved blocks. Make sure when you DO get an upgraded aluminum radiator...that you also buy a higher rated radiator cap (1.3bar+). Hit up "MARTY T".....he can hook you guys and gals up with a nice KOYO radiator.

Re: New to boost, need help with an overheating issue (NVturbo)
A Koyo Rad ain't that cheap man.
I use a DA Rad in my CRX, works damn good plus I don't have to clamp down on the Rad hose clamp like I did with my EF rad.
If you have your A/C condensor then that blocks alot of wind going to the rad so if you don't have A/C the yank that **** out like I did. Check your IC, are there any bent fins that might block the wind from going thru?? Some IC don't flow air very well. I had a stock Starion IC that was modified and I found that that IC block too much air from my Rad. That explains my Huge FMIC
Did you tune it?? If not the do so, your motor might be running lean that explains the temps going up. And if you run Pig rich that could be bad also so get it dyno tuned.
