New b16 nippon question.
Hallo guys.Im gonna give a try this pistons.
http://www.ebay.com/itm/Nippon-Racin...80896038294%26
They are Nippon pistons. My question would be what should be the piston to wall clearance for 450 whp b16.
Im kinda confused cause they are cast pistons. What about .001 for every 100 whp like vitara pistons?Im thinking of .0045-.0055 to be safe.
Thanks for your time.

You can still make that kind of power on Nippon pistons, much like you can make that power on stock pistons, but the longevity and sensitivity of the setup is questionable. Pistons/rods aren't that expensive...and a lot less of a pain in the *** than fixing a melted piston/cracked sleeve

Also the pistons he has the link posted of are made of te same material that Mitsubishi has there pistons made with for there 4g63 so they have to be a little better then any old cast n/a pistons

Re: New b16 nippon question.
People have done over 400 on nippons more then once. They have thicker ringlands then stock. One guy used the high compression nippons and put down 399 on E85. Tuning is key. And of course forged would be better if its in the budget. You can use the nippons with afyermarket rods but its like $50 extra for the machining.

Ok guys.Afte research ive done about the chep pistons.
They seem to be 4 options
NPR pistons(NIPPON PISTON RING CO., LTD.)Yellow package
Its an japanese brand but it says america on their boxes pictured at ebay. http://www.npr.co.jp/english/
YCP pistons(Yong Chiang Piston Co., Ltd.)Taiwan manufactured by the japanese standard aluminum cast. Blue box. http://www.ycpiston.com.tw/
NIPPON racing.NIPPON RACING LTD.They came in a white box whith made in Japan writen at the bottom of the sticker. The only ifo i could find is the distributor named in ebay Uyuni sales http://members.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI...userid=uyunira.
And the rs machine we know.
Since the budget droped im ginna try npr PR4 81.5mm pistons with oem rods with arp2000 rod bolts.Im gonna keep it 350whp to see how it goes.

Bottom line: If you're going to take the time to build it, do it right (forged) or leave it stock

Re: New b16 nippon question.
I'm not arguing that it CAN'T be done. I was arguing that it isn't worth the "upgrade" to Nippon pistons from stock pistons. You can make those same power numbers with E85 on a bone stock bottom end.

Anyway what the stock b16 rods "safe" limit? They seem to hold very nice due to small length and 1.75 rod/stroke.

Re: New b16 nippon question.
With pump gas I wouldnt push it harder than 325-350whp and with E85, 350-375whp...maybe as much as 400whp. The stock ringlands will most likely be the first part to let go, but with good tuning, you shouldn't have any issues.

Re: New b16 nippon question.
Like I said if its in the budget go forged if not the nippons are a cheaper alternative. I get the whole do it right the first time arguement. But people dont realize not everybody has that option. And of course the standard answer for that is well you shouldn't do it then. Cheaper is not always gonna end tragically.
Hey trickeng, what was it.... 9.14 on stock sleeves if I remember. Too bad they didnt give up when they didn't have a sleeved block.......
Lmao they deleted his comment
