Never been Boosted
Ok here's the deal, I just bought my first hatch, not my first civic (this is #5), but my first hatch is a 97 and i bought it with a 99 B16, tranny, and ECU. Right now at this point the previous owner ran it pretty hard and it's making a rough metal on metal sound at the bottom end. A local shop said it might be the crank rubbing, so that's my excuse for the build. I have never owned or even drove a turbo car. I want to do it right though, meaning good parts, fast, and most of all, reliable. Especially since I will drive it probably everyday and might race it on the track sometimes.
What I want to do to my B16, is just about everything. I want to put in a stroker kit, low comp pistions, rods, sleeved, head port polished, new valve train, turbo cams, adj. cam gears, bigger injectors, hondata system, and of course the turbo kit. I was thinking of a full-race system with a bigger turbo. I want the big turbo with high end power so I can drive it on the streets and have the option of stomping on it to get the power. At first, I was thinking of about 300hp street tune on 93 octane pump gas but the more I research the more I see a set up like this pushing 400+, which i won't complain about. What I am asking is out of yall's experience with turbo, am I on the right track? Am I going in the right direction? I would like to have a monster under my hood and would love some advice, so please help me with any suggestions that would help me get in the right direction.

sounds like your going in the right direction. Do it right the first time is my advice. Dont cheap out on parts or you'll pay for it in the end. For everyday driving I wouldn't run a HUGE turbo IMO. Look into the gt3076r or gt35r, you can squeeze 400+ hp no problems.
In many cases ball-bearing turbos are not needed either (hence the GT3076R and GT35Rs) is a bit much. He needs to know the basics before upgrading to these expensive units. Take your time, read the FAQs, get back to us when you've made some firm decisions.
the first thing you need to know about having a turbo honda is ..... you are gonna get so many chicks! , you will be beatin them off with a stick.
well maybe not, but yeah, do alot of reading is my advice, and dont cheap out on parts. see what other people are running ,and what works.

Lol.. I think that is with any turbo car..

So this is what I have decided so far. I am going to rebuild the moter stroke it out with low comp pistions, rods etc. etc. The head will get a full port/polish and upgraded valvetrain to handle up to 10,000RPM. As far as the size of the turbo i have decided to go big. Well, a Full-Race GT35R Ball Bearing Turbo will do. I know it will have lag time and a steep HP curve at high RPMs but i would not mind that for the HP #s it will make. I will be driving it on the streets so it will not see over 5500RPM on a daily basis so it will do just fine for when i do want to stomp it and pull away from anything that might try
Ok thanks for the info and i will start a new thread when i get this monster started.

dont waste the money on the stroker kit. i made 540 with a very conservative tune and a very tired engine on my old b16. the 35r will get you there with no problem.
Usually high horsepower and reliable on don't work to well unless you really know what your doing. I'll again give you the advice to read read read read, and then read some more. Once you think you know it all, read some more.
I have read the FAQ for the past 2 days and i dont plan on stopping. It has so much info that i needed and it has helped me understand a lot. I am also planning on going to the Import Face-Off this weekend in Houston so i can see some set-ups first hand and talk to everybody i can about engine build ups, turbo selection, and tuners in my area. I understand this will be a long expensive project and i am willing to take the time and money it takes to do it right. This also means getting all the info i can plus some more. So any helpful hints, tricks, or tips from all the turbo guys are always helpfull.
