Default Need suggestions... turbo sizing and spool time guesstimates

Ok you guys seem to be very knowledgeable from what I have seen browsing this forum for the last year or so on and off. That said I am new to the forum but not to honda's.

I am putting together a little project (like everyone), custom intercooled turbo setup and built sleeved motor.

My questions are about what turbo to use... obviously big is good but not if I cant spool it before I hit redline (7k-8k roughly). That in mind I get alot of people saying go t60-1, and some saying big t4e, and then still some saying that a hybrid t3/4e might do what I want.

I kind of been leaning to the t4e with like a huge compressor side ( http://www.mjmturbos.com/images/T04E70.jpg like this), but then agian am not sure.

DUH sorry... I guess I should tell you my intensions as far as output and driveability huh. I am looking for little over 400 fwhp and manageable lag till I am there. This is not a daily driver so driveablility is not limited much more than being streetable... do still want to take it on the street.

Please input any opinions... and ask me for any more relivant info I forgot.

First the most important question is what motor do you have? And what have you done to the motor. From there you can try to mate a turbo to your motor. Every motor is different. 60-1 is a nice turbo. Depending on your compression it shouldn't lag too much. A t4e is a nice turbo also. All these turbo's are capable oh making you 400 whp. It's how you want the boost to come in. A t3/t4oe will hit boost faster then the above turbos. However it wont pull as hard as a 60-1 or a t4 on the highway. A 60-1 will need some time to hit full boost, and on the street it make not be able to hit full boost. However on the highway the 60-1 is a terror!!! It pulls hard !!! Very hard!!

With my 3" downpipe, straight pipe and 3" exhaust, with haltech controlled anti-lag and 11:1 compression on my b16a I make full boost on my 60-1 t3 a bit over 4000rpm. It depends on if we are talking 60-1 or 60-1 t3, those 60-1 t4's will take a significant amount longer to spool up. I really think the 60-1 t3 with .63 a/r is the best street/strip combo out there. I daily drive the thing, doesnt spool up around town which i think is a good thing. But yeah, highway runs are just to insane to even comprehend.

This is the plan.

Sorry, should have told you that too huh... I got a h23a being re-sleeved with golden eagle sleeves soon, using je pistons 9.5:1, ts rings, crower billet rods, all arp hardware, new seal, bearings, pressure checked, etc. Nothing trickey on the engine work... all still the factory bore and stroke.

Waiting to get the block done and back, soon hopefully.

Head is all stock other than a 5 angle on both intake/ exhaust valves and some minor port work around the valves. Hopefully will get to redo that with alot more porting (extrude hone or local work), big valves, and some better bumpsticks down the road a bit.

Has a ported factory manifold/ tb for now with the second set of runner flaps removed for dual stage ****. Was told that will work better if it ever get to the running point (which seems like forever and a day).

I have not addressed the fuel management yet though... my other fear. A major thing to overlook and I have to do something about it sooner or later if I ever want all this to run. I know a s-afc and some big injectors probably not going to cut it... and I dont know **** about haltechs or hondata's. I am in a hick area for import car tuners too.

So what you all think... am I ******* this all up or just does this all seem a bit overwhelming to keep track of. All this and more to come... hope I can hit my goal for power goal eventually so I can move on to the next project.

Damn about time for some cold ones

Almost forgot one more thing... I am going to be running accord gearing... bit longer than prelude si or vtec.

Hmmm....

Sorry but searching I cannot find enough about turbo sizing... or spooling on bigger turbo's. Everyone is always talking about hybrid that or t3 this.

Hey I maybe found a turbo but need a second opinion guys, PLEASE!

Is a 60-1 of any size gonna make enough power? I seen some different stuff for sale but kinda looking at a 60-1 q trim seen on a classified... asking 850 for it shipped and he says it is new.

Would this be too big for my application? Is he asking too much and what should I be worried about with this deal?

Please Help...Thanx

maybe go with a T3/T04B from what i've heard it can produce 450whp. spools up fast 3k....this is what majestic turbo and importparts told me. I would however need that 60-1 though i want 500-550whp on my H22

how much did golden eagle charge you and how long will it take them to send it back to you....mine is going down there soon too
